I like what you said about changing Justin.

I used to hang around with a guy that was always glass half empty, I found his "black dog" mood effected me a lot. We moved away and I found I was much happier, I did not really notice this until another friend mentioned it.

I seem to only get ads for bras from Zappos.

Interesting. Mine are for bris and Zippos.

Wonder when this will be resolved?

I feel bad for all those who aren't running an adblock program for whatever reason. I turned mine off and looked around, Yikes.

Sorry to all those groaning at your monitors. Some chains just beg pulling. Maybe this will help everyone affected

Ken, I do not use an adblock system. However, I have trained myself to just never look at the advertising. Once trained, I just never see that stuff unless I specifically go looking.

At this point the only thing that offends me more than distasteful ads are off topic hypocritical rants that should be reserved for chaff.

Rant – I understand that word

Hypocritical – "… a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess …"

I'm at a loss how that applies here.

    How about some enlightenment?

    Greg,
He must be referring to people that complain about people that complain about the ads. That is the only hypocritical element I have noticed .

I like Ken and it's my honor to call him my friend.

    Not all complaints are frivolous.

There needs to be some accountability here as the ads are an embarrassment.

I wish those who are in a position to fix this were half as invested in BPL as Ken is.

Justin, if you don't care about BPL (which is perfectly fine), then why are you getting involved in this conversation anyways?

For those who are so well trained that they don't see any ads (or anything else) that they don't wish to see… good for you.

For the rest of you who hate ads for whatever reason — give AdBlock (Chrome) or AdBlock Plus (Firefox) a try.

Yep, AdBlocker is what I use. I brought my tablet to a friends house for the sole purpose of turning him on to the virtues of BPL. I brought up the site and on the side was a glaring banner ad of a young well endowed girl bent over in a short cut T-shirt. My friends wife was standing right there and inquired as to what kind of site we were looking at. I was rather embarrassed and had to quickly try to stumble through an explanation of 3rd party advertisers…blah blah blah. AdBlocker installed since then.

This is not an issue of how to block ads.

It is how to get BPL to remove the too-suggestive ads.

Without thinking, I sent a BPL link to a friend… guess what showed up?

I'm sure everyone's aware that the racy ads aren't just placed here on BPL willy-nilly. You can darn sure bet BPL has looked at the demographic of this site (mostly older men who spend a lot of time out in the woods by themselves) and thought the girly pics would be the best choice economically. Ryan and the ad firms figure BPL is a good spot to place such ads. Truth be known probably more than one BPL subscriber has responded to them.

If the chips are down and Ryan has to decide between a dozen or so people who are offended (and maybe rightfully so) and the money he gets from the ads, I know what he's going to choose. There are some very good men (subscribers) here at BPL who are unhappy with the content of the ads, but If they bring the issue to a showdown they'll find out how expendable they really are. Money talks and BS walks.

Why do I get the feeling that Mr. Jordan is ROTFLHAO right about now?

Must be. Our Ryan J does not have an MD. There are lots of other Ryan Jordans with MDs though.

Funny thing. I only get ads for sites and topics I visited. Amazon and REI come up with ads specifically for stuff I looked at. Fortunately, they didn't get weird when I went looking for fishnet shirts.

Ya got me there, Doug, although it has occurred to me that he sees but just doesn't give a rat's arse what we think. My above post was based on the latter assumption with a concomitant assumption that he has a sense of humor. Of sorts.

Nope, that's the one I was referring to. He ignores us, I ignore his chops. Simple as that. Besides, I've been around enough PhD's to know that, beyond a lot of knowledge in a very specialized area of concentration, there's not a lot to distinguish them from anybody else.

Oh, I think he cares, but how much time to you put into something like this, for so little in return? (Sort of like re-painting the living room.)

I'd just like to see better control over the ads. They are automated from pick lists based on some kind of content/keyword/demographic. If someone is "gaming" google it will take a while to root it out.

It would be nice, however, to get a "We hear you, and we're trying", which seems to be what was shared by Bob B., but a little more frequently than twice a year.

He's actually got a pretty good sense of humor, at least from my one trip with him. He was very personable and pretty easy going. I enjoyed backpacking with him.

Out of curiosity I followed the little blue triangle in the top right corner of the ads. On the landing page you get into about the the banners and there is an option to turn off that specific company from being displayed ever again.

I did it to one brand and haven't seen them since.
