Has anyone else had a difficult time matching up the threads on your Platypus and the Sawyer Mini filter? This past weekend I got a leak-free exchange maybe 1 out of 5 times. Very frustrating.

Sawyer Mini leaking with a Platy

Since this is a common complaint with the Squeeze I don't see why the Mini should be any different. The threads are incompatible. Though at one time Platy threads were the same.
Just a little story. Was on a trip recently where there were a number of Minis being used and I had a Squeeze. Flow rate is much slower with the Mini. One person gave theirs away mid trip because they were sick of the waiting and fiddle factor. The Squeeze weighs the same as my Steripen. I can tell when my pen is working or not. Never can be totally sure about the Saywer(did it ever freeze?). So for me I am going back to the pen. Works great here in the land of dip and sip. YMMV.
Yeah, the thread pitch on the Squeeze and the Mini are the same, so the same bladders that didn't work with the Squeeze won't work on the Mini either. I have about 7 or 8 Platy's, which have all been bought at various times over the last 4 years, and none of them *really* fit either of the Sawyer filters. Some people have said that they had better luck, but it seems that the majority of folks report incompatibility between these products. Even a buddy that went with me on a particular hike carried a Platy bladder and a Squeeze filter, which he swore worked before leaving home… in the field though, my Evernew bladder ended up doing the work for 2 people as he had immediate failure the very first time he tried to use his set up in the field… So, I always suggest others to either buy the Evernew bags, or use the supplied Sawyer bags, but to stay away from Platys in this instance…
perennial topic – google "platypus sawyer site:backpackinglight.com"
the thread pitch on all Platypus is slightly different than Sawyer filters.
Some Platypuses don't leak. I think it's that plastic is less stiff, so the thread sort of stretches to fit. There's only about one turn of thread so it doesn't take much. Older Platypus has stiffer plastic so it doesn't stretch as much so it leaks a little.
Almost all other bags and bottles have the right thread pitch. Sawyer bags, Evernew bags are supposed to be good – Platypuses have a weird pitch. I like re-used soda or water bottles – they have no seams to break so you can apply pressure better. But they don't collapse, but a 1 liter bottle isn't too big.
Platypi? Formulate sentence so you can use singular?
I thought the Platy threads and the Sawyers were compatible but it sounds like I am the only one in the dark on that one. Thanks for all of the comments, guys.
Ken, I agree with you. I may go back to the SteriPen as well. The Mini is very slow when it does work and I love that I can dip a big ol' canteen in a river and have it ready to go within a minute or so by just swirling the SteriPen.
If you look at many people's experiences, both Steripen and Sawyer can fail, most people figure out how to use them effectively
With Steripen, make sure and take extra set of batteries. Brand name non rechargeable Lithium.
With Sawyer, backflush and run through some water before and after every trip.
