I have a upcoming project. I want to make my own innertent for a HMG Ultamid 4. I've owned a Hubba HP, and I think the solid fabric for the innertent was nice and light. Where can I score some similar fabric? I've only been able to find 30D. The Hubba NX uses 20D.

Thanks Jerry. Looks like the colours are a bit too dark to be used as a innertent though.

Btw, I should have posted this In the MYOG forum.

I moved it for you.

With nylon that light weight it tends to be sort of transparent. Maybe the brown is light enough? Maybe ask them?

Everyone has 1.1 oz nylon, for example questoutfitters.com or ripstopbytheroll.com

thru-hiker.com has yellow m90 which is 0.9 oz/yd2

Besides Argon:

Thru-Hiker has 10D and 20D breathable fabrics in a variety of colors.

DIY Gear Supply has 15D Impetus in black and abbey stone color.

Ripstopbytheroll has 20D in several colors.

Tigoat has 10D Nobul2 (black only though)

Owfinc has 20D in yellow

That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

As always, great feedback.

@Roger
: Thank you for moving the thread, and i agree, i would prefer yellow myself too. Having slept in Hilleberg tents many times, i'm biased for that color.

@Jerry
and Ryan: Great suggestions, thank you. I've now got a lot of sites/shops to explore further.

Another Question: What would you use for such a big innertent as for the Ultamid 4? (I plan on making both a 4 person and a 2 person innertent).

Cheers

If going for very light stuff, check it's specs -IME you don't want to be using calendared (cired) or downproof fabrics like Impetus or pertex for an inner tent (unless having a good area of netting too). -CFM will likely be low leading to possible condensation issues. The tent inner is so far away from a heat source compared to clothing,a bivi or sleepingbag, that condensation may occur inside it.

An acquaintance who made an inner from pertex for his Golite SL3 encountered very poor condensation inside the inner when tested.

Also, I see these half solid/half net inners with sil or cuben for the solid rather than a breathable fabric. A friend has one for his Trailstar – and really wishes he hadn't – condensation above face and on feet!

How about this stuff Peter? Yellow, similar to the Hilleberg and Terra Nova Inner fabrics (40gsm =1.2oz/yd)

"You could make inner out of mesh"

Definitely.

Most times of the year though where i hike, a solid inner is preferable. But there's definitely room for a mesh innertent also. And a half mesh/half solid innertent too… :-)
