Hi Joshua

> where I risked my long-beloved SP600 and super-trustworthy GST-100A for the sake of 'science' to prove that you CAN'T infact burn through a snow peak titanium pot with canister stove.

Not a chance. You might with an oxy-acetylene torch if you tried hard.

Yup, pretty much any stove will make an empty thin Ti pot glow post haste–the more distinct the flame pattern the more…interesting the glow's shape. I've learned to put the oil in *first* before placing pot on burner, and to stir-stir-stir when simmering.

It's a science lesson in the woods :-)

> cooking with aluminum pots is the risk of alzheimers,

Another lovely urban myth.

The only bit of research to ever demonstrate a connection turned out to be flawed: the aluminium got into the plaques during sample preparation in the lab! They stuffed it.

Come on guys – Aluminium is one of the most common elements on the planet! People drink huge quantities of acid soft drink etc out of Al cans. Ant-acid tablets are an aluminium compound. Deodorants use aluminium compounds. Drinking water is clarified with Al salts. The idea that it would be toxic …

Aluminum (and Teflon) has gotten some bad press in the last years. The question is if aluminum possibly causes Alzheimers disease. I do not know if it is true or not. Until proven otherwise I will avoid cooking anything in aluminum. I have a Mont Bell Ti pot and a REI Ti spoon. I have not had any problems with scratching or cooked on residue. BTW I use those 4 little scrubbies at the end of my fingers to clean my pot after dinner. One important feature is to have the lip on the outside of the pot.

One thing that does drive me nuts at home with HAA pans is acidic foods. Due to the fact that I love tomatoes my Calphlon tall pot is looking bad. The acidic foods can cause issues with the Anodizing. (I need to send that pot back in, they warranty it for that.)

So that is something to think about-if you plan on cooking tons of spaghetti sauce on the trail, Ti or SS might be a better choice ;-)
