FYI, Exped is releasing new pads early next year that will be lighter and warmer. Looks like they are adopting the mummy shape.

All you southern boys have air conditioning. How could you not? Up here, I only know a handful of people who do. We certainly don't.

I have a damaged back and toss and turn alot during the night.
My back does not like the NeoAir and my camping buddies do not appreciate the NeoAir squeeky squeeky all night long. My back loves EXPED. I use the SYNMAT 7 for warmer weather. I would get the EXPED Downmat for colder weather but I alread own a STEPHENS WARMLITE DOWNMAT. 4 inches thick.. 26 inches wide.. 22 oz including the weight of a very large pump sack … it does not have an R rating but I am a cold sleeper and it is VERY warm.

I know many won't believe me but overheating can be managed much easier and cheaper now then using an airco :-)

Most people don't realize that almost 1/2 of Washington is desert and hot as hell in the summer. When working in Tucson in July, I laughed when I saw that the daytime high temps were only a couple of degrees off from my hometown Viva la air conditioning.

Also, before any of you westsiders want to get snarky and display an unearned superiority complex, then Govenor Gregoire noted the Tri Cities has more scientists, engineers, PhDs, MDs, yadda yadda per capita than Seattle.

So there.

What were we talking about? Oh yeah… pads.

I use the pro lite (regular) pad 90% of the time due to its durability and weight but I really like the comfort of the synmat. I've found that the baffles do a pretty good job of keeping me on the mattress at night.

To each their own.

Dan, I'm surprised to hear you think the NeoAir is more durable. Are you talking about the Xlite line or the OG ones? My Xlite has at least half a dozen punctures and that's with always keeping it on top of a 1/8" pad.

Ben, thanks for understanding. I wish I could go Glen style and do the no pad thing, but my sleep is too important and I'm a wuss. I toss all night long even at home.
