Michael,
Since you are here…I thought I would make a suggestion to the backcountry bed system.

Please remove the open baffles! Is it a manufacturing problem where the baffles need to be open instead of closed?

On this kind of system, where each section is unique in shape, sizing, etc, there is no reason why you would want to move the down around in different places (unlike a horizontal baffle bag/quilt where you can easily move the down to be all on top or on the sides depending on temp).

I have a backcountry bed that after a wash, several sections were completely devoid of down…due to down migration in the open baffles. It was a pain to move the down back.

I will give you this…sierra designs when I called asking about what happened (I didn't figure it was open baffled b/c of the design), offered an on the spot replacement for a new bag, …which I declined, but I was very impressed with.

John:

This is already done for future production (I am assuming you referencing the top of the quilt). I can't remember whether he created two or three sections vs. the one we have now, but this has been addressed…..

Thanks for the input, though. If you think of anything else, be sure to let me know…..

So, ALL of the Backcountry Elite 800 beds that come out in February will have the new baffles? I'm assuming that some have already been produced for the upcoming release in a few weeks, and wanted to make sure that if I ordered one of those that I wouldn't be getting one of the older designs.

Well…yes, I am talking about the "top: of the quilt…but…its really everywhere. I mean, the footbox bottom had a ton of down shifting too….

Jon:

Some of the bags have already been updated. This was an "inline" change, so it unfortunately won't be possible to determine exactly which have the new vs. old baffle system. But all inventory going forward should have the new system beginning in February.
