I've never experienced them in person, But here is my 2 cents worth. At $400 it is on the pricier end and faces some pretty stiff competition from TarpTent, Lightheart Gear, SMD and others. The weight would be great except that there is no way this is a 2 person tent, not with a width of 90cm(~35in). It would be pretty spacious for one, but unless you plan on spooning your tent mate all night long, that's way too cramped for two.

Erica,

You can buy the same design tent or similar for less yet Terra Nova is known for good quality. This version uses a little heavier fabric as compared to the Terra Nova tent that is the lightest double wall tent in the world (Their claim), but that version is nearly $500.00

Terra Nova

This version is still pretty light and you can compare it to the Vaude you were looking at.
Vaude

An alternative to consider.

It was reviewed here favorably: http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/vaude_power_lizard_ul_tent_review.html?mb_sort=desc

A search here will also bring up other reviews and comments.
It is certainly only a sole tent, as are other tents of similar design: The Terra Novas, the Tarptent Moment double wall, and the classic, the Hilleberg Akto.

Suggest looking at the interior center height and end heights, as these will determine whether you feel cramped in the tent. The Moment should be easiest to pitch because it uses carbon struts and doesn't depend on stakes to create and hold the triangular shape of the end panels at the head and foot.

The fabric weights suggest that tent is intended as a solo shelter for winter/storm camping. I thought you were looking for shelter use with your toddler? Are you thinking winter/storm/cold weather camping?

For that much money, camping with toddler, assuming mostly above freezing spring/fall/summer temps and not going out in heavy weather exposure, I would much rather have an MSR Hubba Hubba NX. Everything about it seems more suitable for the purpose you described.

36 inches wide isn't even a particularly comfortable size for one person.

Thank you all for your comments.

You are correct, I was originally looking for a tent that would fit both my son and me, but I am entertaining buying a nice tent for me, since he won't be going out that many times with me. But when he does come out, he can be under my hammock tarp right under me. If he gets scared in the middle of the night, I would probably be able to crawl in with him in a solo tent. (he always sleeps curled up against me if we are together anyway).

It is very hard to see what kind of tent I would like without really getting in one and trying it out in the field. The only place around us is REI, and I have set up the BA Fly CreeK UL 1, and that was small. I was looking at the 2, and it was better. But I would kind of like to stay away from bright colors, and seeing I stealth sometimes, and don't want to attract attention to myself, so that limits tent options.

You can rent from REI. Try some out and figure out what you want in a tent. You can make yourself crazy trying to decide by photos and specs only. Peoples opinions are only worth so much too. It's gonna be you living in there. I'd go with another hammock. Gonna want to sleeping by himself soon enough if not right now.

My hiking partner is now 11 years old and is developing her own agendas on the weekends, so I'm solo a lot now. With that said, we sure had some excellent times all cooped up in the Reflex 2 with the Belgian Sheepdog. It wouldn't have worked for me to put her beneath me in a hammock, not to mention the "potential energy" factor (seen more than one hammock go to ground suddenly).
