Been tring to make a pair of whoopie slings for a while have tried a number of different techniques for splicing but none have really worked out. I cant figure out how to pull through the berry with out making too tight or losing the end from the wire. Is there something I'm missing any tips that make this easier or is it sapoused to be difficult
Thanks Matt

Some Dyneema materials are very difficult to splice. I have found the Samson Rope website to be one of the best sources of information on making slings, whoopie or otherwise. I have had no trouble splicing Amsteel Blue or other similar ropes. Zing-It is usually very difficult to splice. I use splicing tools made from knitting needles. I find that a tool made from a knitting needle about the same diameter as the OD of the rope works well. I make my tools longer than usual so that the rope hasn't entered the bury before the tool exits the rope. I have a metal lathe, so I am able to drill a small hole in the flat end of the tool and after tapering the end of the rope, I can push the end of the rope into the splicing tool. I have a pusher that I made from a 1/16" Diameter Stainless Steel welding rod that I use to wedge the end of the rope into the splicing tool and also to push the tool and the rope through the bury. I make the bury according to Samson's whoopie sling recommendations working in FID lengths of 21 rope diameters. I calculate the FID length of the diameter rope that I am splicing and mark the rope accordingly. Most of the information on Samson's website is for larger diameter ropes, but I find that it works well with smaller diameter ropes as long as the lengths are recalculated. I usually try to make a somewhat longer bury than recommended. Samson doesn't taper the rope in their locked brummel eye, but I do. I make the taper before I pull the tail into the bury, mainly to get the rope into my splicing tool's hollow end. I have never had good results trying to splice ropes like Zing-It with wire FIDs.
I just want to be on record as liking the phrase "help with making whoopie"
YouTube has some great tutorials.
Every few years I need to make some and I always forget how. I search hammock forums for a tutorial and one for a locked Brummell too and after a few minutes I always find what I need.
