Hello everyone,

I have recently been researching each of these two tents for the past few weeks and still can not decide which to go with. I have actually ended up with both tents (its a long story) but one needs to go.

I have read reviews, watched videos when available and have compared the specs of each tent side by side, and still…. Cant decide.

Biggest reason for choosing the BA over the REI, lighter pack weight and larger vestibule area.

REI over the BA, convenience of return if something goes wrong and having a footprint that is one third the price of the BA footprint.

If you are interested in sharing your opinion, I would love to hear it. Thank you all in advance!

Why not just buy the BA tent from REI and make your own footprint for a couple of dollars? Seems like that'll solve both your gripes with it.

The Quarterdome tents are awesome backpacking tents. I own one. But they are a little short for some folks, and they aren't UL….many better options out there for less weight IMO.

Unless I wait for a big sale I would hate to pay full price. The Copper Spur is a pricy item. I have thought about others that are lighter, such as the Scout but at this time I prefer the design of a free standing tent. I am sure in time I will get into an UL tarp type shelter.

If you are looking to purchase a shelter now why not take the jump?

I had an older model QD2 and was very happy with the tent. Now needing to upgrade, it seems like the BA was the QD's closest competition. Mostly winning out in its lighter weight and larger vestibule area.

I like the idea of having an enclosed shelter. I am a fly fisherman and the places I usually visit have a good population of rattle snakes. I like being able to zip up my tent, head out to the water and come back to camp without a concern of a rattler making its way into my gear.

So I guess its a fear of un-invited guest that keeps me from trying a tarp system.
