Anyone have any good meal suggestions beyond your typical oatmeal for breakfast options? What are people's favorite dehydrated meals for camping and hiking?

Also, I know there are now options such as soylent and other powdered meal-replacements… preferably I'd like to have something with actual flavor and texture… you know, real food!

I found some great recipes here:

Then feel free to modify and create according to your own taste and needs. I have found that adding less water than called for in the beginning and adding more if necessary works better for me, especially with pre-packaged dehydrated meals.

You can cook up any meal at home, dehydrate it, and add hot water in the field.

I like instant mash potatoes. Super easy, powder so they don't take up much space, and always taste good.

Thanks Ken!

On my site, TrailCooking, that Ken linked to – FBC (Freezer Bag Cooking) is what built the site. Think of FBC like making your own meals, just where you know what is in it – and dialed into your taste :-)

Nice site Gerald, gonna be trying some of your recipes. I don't mind "cooking" a little out there — usually more fun than just rehydrating.
