Can is from the Mission Brewery in SanDiago, CA They are a Micro Brewery. The can will no doubt be a collector item in the future. I love the graphics :-) the metallic emerald green is my favorite.

If you step on them you will smash them.

They will survive normal handling. All materials used are rust proof.

Both stoves have integrated pot supports.

Both stove have been shown to light easily in sub zero weather. If you want I can give links to videos showing cold weather lighting.

Thank you for your inquiry.

Here’s a video of the StarLyte burner in -13 degree temps in Northern MN. I used it to thaw out my car door latching mechanism.

I think what was meant was, what are the advantages of one stove over the other.

FWIW I've used Zelph's Fancee Feast stove for years and find it to be my very favorite alky stove. And I've made and purchased a bunch of different ones. It lights easily in all conditions and I like how it stacks in my kit (fuel bottle fits inside the Fancee Feast which then fits inside my mug — very compact).

I've been tempted to try his Starlyte stove for an additional 1/2 ounce weight savings; but I really hate to give up the stacking feature and the FF just works SO well.

I'm sure you'd be happy with either stove and probably the pot too (but I have no personal experience with the El Conquistador pot).

>I think what was meant was, what are the advantages of one stove over the other.

Yes, LOL, thank you for clarifying. I didn't mean physical strength of stove; not interested in driving over them with a car.

For example, I own two StarLyte stoves. I'm curious what advantage the Fancee might give me over the StarLytes, if any. David notes one: it's hollow inside!

The Fancee Feest holds 3oz of fuel and has a larger diameter pot support.

Option 3 would be the famous Venom Super Stove.

I've been using Dan's AC/BC prototype pot and stoves for months, now and never had a problem with either. They work as described, are super light and the cool factor is off the charts. I've been asked what it is, how much it cost and where can I buy one by several people. YMMV.

Looks pretty neat. Just curious — is it safe to boil water in a can? Aren't they lined with plastic? Or is the conquistador special because it doesn't have a lining?

"whitenoise"

There is a lot of pros and cons on the subject and lots of research has been completed. Here is a little I came across a while back:

Food Addit Contam. 2004 Oct;21(10):1015-26.
Migration of bisphenol A from can coatings–effects of damage, storage conditions and heating.

Abstract
Bisphenol A (BPA) is an important monomer used in the manufacture of epoxy resins for internal food can linings. Experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of different storage conditions and can damage on the migration of BPA to foods. These experiments were conducted in a systematic fashion by filling empty epoxyphenolic coated cans with four foods: soup, minced beef, evaporated milk and carrots and a food simulant (10% ethanol). Filled cans of each food type or simulant were then sealed and processed using appropriate conditions, before storage at three different temperatures: 5 degrees C, 20 degrees C and 40 degrees C. For each of the storage regimes, 50% of the cans were dented to establish if this would lead to increased BPA migration. Cans were removed from these stocks at intervals of 1, 3 and 9 months storage at 5 degrees C and 20 degrees C or 10 days, 1 and 3 months at 40 degrees C. Some initial problems of heterogeneity between samples was overcome by determining the amount of BPA in food as well as in the can lining. It was found that 80-100% of the total BPA present in the coating had migrated to foods directly after can processing by pilot plant filling with food or simulant, sealing and sterilization. This level was not changed by extended storage (up to 9 months) or can damage, indicating most migration was occurring during the can processing step. There was no noticeable difference, in this respect, between the different foods or the food simulant. Analysis of control samples (foods fortified with approximately 0.1 mg kg(-1) BPA and contained in Schott bottles) showed that BPA was stable under both processing and storage. Experiments were also conducted to investigate the potential effects, on the migration of BPA from can coatings, of cooking or heating foods in the can prior to consumption. Food cans were purchased and the food either cooked or heated in the can. BPA was analysed prior to and after the heating/cooking process. It was concluded from the results that there were no appreciable differences in the BPA level before and after cooking or heating.

Just ordered one with "option 3". I'm excited to get it as its going to be a birthday gift for a friend of mine and I know he will be stoked as he's a big fan of mission brewery.

I ordered one of these some time ago, with the 3 cup option, starlyte stove, and plastic container and hear shield. It works great, and is super light and packable. Awesome set up.

Definitely! Will be using it on a quick over nighter this weekend. Do you have any recommended wind screens for the stove?

Just got back from an overnighter with my wife, dog, and buddy. Stove worked great. Light and efficient and was able to support three people easily. With the warmer weather in California, I was able to boil water fairly quickly, especially using the provided pot. The flat bottom was great because it had the ridge lines that lined up perfectly with the stove stand.

Dave…thank you! How is the Venom Super Stove working out for your friend? I'm shipping a kit today with that option.

Lou, thanks for the fedback, glad it worked well for you. I love the graphics,Mission Brewery should be proud :-)

Note: Yesterday I tested a full size with original bottom in my Caldera Cone. I used 1 ounce of HEET an got 3 cups of 70 degree starting temp water to boil in 13.5 min. I used the Modified StarLyte burner. My first try was with the regular StarLyte burner and did not get the boil. The Modified is certainly the way to go for efficiency.(sorry for the thread drift :-))

Zelph, which do you think is stronger in the long run, your steel flat bottomed fosters can, or this conquistador can?

Cheers!

Zelph,

In what ways does your Fancee Feest outperform the simple hole-punched design, which is lower-profile and requires no pot support?

Dan Yeruski BPL Member

Adam, the Conquistador in this kit has a steel bottom just like the Foster can. The Conquistador has the original top which is much more durable in the long run compared to the wide mouth Foster.

Brian, the fancee Feest has a slow release capability for the fuel. Slower is more efficient than the SuperCat stove that you describe. You can put you pot on the Fancee Feest and light it to get maximum efficiency. You have to wait for X amount of seconds befor you can set the pot down on a SuperCat stove. Set it down too soon or too fast and the stove will go out.
