Hey all
I have a Sawyer water filter that is the regular size. I bought the Platypus 2 liter water holder to go with it. I read some negative feedback on the Sawyer water bags and their susceptibility to breaking which is why I bought the Platypus. I decided to test out this filtration system and the Platypus seemed to fit with the Sawyer, but when I turned the bag upside down to let the water flow through the filter, the connection point was leaking.

I am just wondering if anybody out there has the same problem. Also, if anybody has suggestions on how to fix this or recommends another type of water bag, I would love to hear your opinion.
Thanks!

Yeah, I did some research on what water bag would work with the Sawyer filter and most people said that the Platypus 2L would be compatible with it. Didn't work for me though, sad to say.

As Ken said, Evernew bladders will work. I think some older platypus bladders had a compatible thread pitch. Newer platypus bladders will leak.

I plan on ordering it from amazon. Do you think it will be more reliable than the Sawyer bag?

Some of my Platy bottles seem to work fine, some of the time, but you need to be very careful when screwing the filter on. Overall I don't consider it a reliable combo.

I have had no issue with my Evernew bags.

And yes, older Platy threads are also compatible. But those are old now.

I thought I read here that the older-older Platypus bladders fit, more recent ones didn't, and the newest ones did again? My 2013 1L bags have a fine seal, and I don't overtighten. I've seen so much back and forth about this, we need a definitive answer.

Can't help there. Never bought Platys. Platy would be smart to match threads.

People seem to report mixed results with this setup. I've gotten a new and old Platy to seal up, but I don't use it as I don't trust the thread strength.

Key point here, is that it isn't the threads that seal, it's the gasket inside the Sawyer that seals against the mouth of the bladder. The threads just hold the mouth tight to the gasket.

If the threads will marry, and they will tighten down well enough to create a firm seal between the mouth and the gasket, and the face of the mouth is clean and smooth, then brand is irrelevant.
