JMT start date: 8/12 out of Mono Meadows

I'll head out of Glacier Point on August 22. I plan on hanging out at Camp 4 for a few days prior to my departure date so I'll be in Yosemite starting ~August 16. First time hiking the John Muir and will be my second time overall in Yosemite.

Is it August yet?

Edit: Jay, what stove setup are you planning on taking? There was a thread discussing stove ban status and i'm curious what others are taking.

Have a great trip Jay! I'm heading out in a month from HI, June 20th, the earliest I've ever done the JMT. I'm usually an August hiker, but decided to try early season this year in an attempt to avoid smoke from the wildfires.

Dylan, I will be using Esbit Tabs with a BPL Wing.

Marko, We should see each other at Reds Meadows are VVR. I should be at VVR on the 8/17 or 18 for resuply.

Good luck to every one on their JMT hike. I am hiking with a soccer dad from my hood. I think it is going to be a HOT & Smokey summer–I hope I am wrong.

I am pretty set on using my "sawed-off" jetboil – 7.4 oz. I've been practicing cooking fish in it and think I have it down. :-)

I'm starting from Sunrise Aug 10 – finishing Sep 3. I'm taking a LOOOONG time on purpose – I felt like I flew through some areas last year that I really wanted to spend time at. So this time I'm taking a full 3 weeks and plan on doing some more exploring!

Any BPL friends starting around my time? See if we can get together?

I'd enjoy meeting you but seriously doubt that I'll catch up. I'm posting on Trail Journals as Pika if anyone is interested.

July 18 from Glacier Pt. here. Plan to hike the JMT-mist trail loop the day before on the 17. If I can get a walkup HI permit for 17th, Id probably take that instead to go ahead and get on the trail a day early.
