I was just made aware of a Norwegian company (or, indeed, one Norwegian guy who has started a company to sell this thing) launching a hammock that I haven“t seen before. The specs aren“t scary, and I like the "big-agnes"-like pad-sleeve. But I really have no experience of backpacking hanging (I'm aching to start!), so I“d love to hear what people here have to say about it.

Here is the link:

The youtube vid was fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rj9IihjjpuU

Of course, it costs crazy amounts of money. But everything in Norway does, and for me who lives here, I donĀ“t have to pay shipping or import taxes etc…

Well it is staggeringly expensive, but it certainly is a whole new take on the backpacking hammock. The weight is comparable to more conventional hammock set-ups, and it looks to be very comfortable. It's good!

Kinda heavy, but it looks hella comfortable. As a curled-up side sleeper, the usual holy grail of hammock comfort, the asym flat lay, is sort of lost on me.

It also nicely solves the old hammock sleeping pad problem. I'm thinking a NeoAir-XTherm would provide a warm and comfortable sleep with this hammock. I note that some of the Hennessy hammocks are just as heavy. A lot of thought went into this design.

If there were any trees where I hike this would tempt me to get off the ground.

As far as I can see, it looks like it would work well when going to ground as well. Hmm. It was actually my wife who found it and liked it. Good thing if both of us like it, since it looks like a bit of an investment.

I really like the pad-solution!

As an only occassional hanger I'll go with the prevailing wisdom on this.
At 1+ pound for the fly and pegs it seems pretty heavy to me.

Yeah, a cuben hex tarp would cut that in half. The hammock setup itself still weighs over 2.5 lbs, though. A full system slightly over 3 pounds isn't bad if it could be used year round.

"Doug: have you ordered it? Let us know!"

Not yet. They're close to having a US distribution deal, so they're not taking US orders yet until they get those details worked out.

Interesting that it hangs from the side instead of at the end. Looks like another clever design.

With those side wings breakfast from the hammock will be difficult. The footbox looks way too small.

They considered your concern on that point about breakfast and this was their solution from their website.

"The hammock can be adjusted at various angles from the normal lying position up to a comfortable chair. When out in nature we found this feature to have many applications. Read a book, have breakfast in bed, sunbathe – you name it."
