Do any of you,eat these at trails?
Its a sesame binded with honey together in a bar (pasteli).
pasteli

It has high calories (about 5 Cal/g),and healthy source of fat.
It is really compact too(a bar similar size to chocolate bar, gives you about 390 Cal).
I estimate to be eating about 110-140g of it per day.

Also there is Halva(sesame paste and cacao),which is even more caloric dense, but its too sweet, bad for your teeth, and needs water to not leave you thirsty.
Good if you want a quick sugar boost.

It depends on the type of pasteli,if its hard or soft.
If it is softer with more honey,it does a bit worse in heat, but does not melt.I am not talking about direct summer sunlight, that would spoil everything fast.

Assuming you keep them in your pack,at 95 F outside (35 C),they might get a little sticky ,and harder to get out of the package, but they can be eaten ok.They are much less sensitive than chocolate.

I dont know how many days it takes to spoil in heat. Will have to test that.I assume if you keep it out of direct sunlight,it will last months.

I've only seen those sold here as small snack size sticks. Or like small crackers.

Ken, the larger sized bars are usually found in Middle Eastern groceries (called Sesame Snaps, I think). You get 3 layers of thin sesame "wafers" in a cello pack. They are very hard in texture (like a hard brittle), very sweet, and not very dentist-approved, LOL. They would not melt, but the 3 layers can stick together in the heat and become more difficult to separate.

Definitely calorie-dense, but they are a candy, not a healthy food.

"How does it do in the heat? Does it get all sticky/melted?"

The sesame bars, which you can also find at Asian markets and in many supermarkets, are fine. Halvah is another story. It has a lot of sesame tahini, which is very oily, and quickly makes a royal mess that is very difficult to control. I'd recommend against it, especially in bear country. Too bad, as it is a very good combination of fat, carbs, and protein, and quite tasty in the bargain.
