I'm reading an old thread over at CPF about a guy who unknowingly mixed a pair of CR123 batteries where one had a different voltage than the other. The batteries exploded and he was left with HF damage of the lungs.

Not to freak anyone out, and I know many of us know not to mix new and old batteries, but in my gear the Steripen is the only thing that uses a pair of CR123 batteries. Might be worth calling attention to in this forum (to make sure your batteries are the same).

I agree that you should not mix batteries. That applies to most chemistries.

All the same, that is rather odd. The good brands of Lithium CR123 batteries have protection circuitry in them to prevent that sort of thing. Perhaps the guy was using cheapie Chinese ones without the circuitry?

Cheers
