Can someone tell me the price for the Fusion 65?
(I am one of the minority who cannot access their website…and yes, I tried every suggestion that Mags and others gave for fixing the issue, but so far none of it has worked.)
50 is 210
65 is 230
210 $ for the 50 and 230 $ for the 65.
My own questions:
– what about sizing ? S, M and L, ok but what do they mean ?
– do bonded seams for added strength also mean they are waterpoof ?
– are the hipbelt pockets optional or not ?
Thanks, Bayden – I appreciate it.
FWIW — That's exactly the price range I thought they'd be at (directly competitive with ULA, GG, etc.). Sounds MIGHTY interesting to me…
Sizing per their website:
Torso: Adjustable from 15"-22"
Hipbelt: Available in Small (26"-34"), Medium (30"-38"), Large (34"-44")
Yoke/Shoulder Straps: Small (15" – Shorter Individuals) and Regular (18" – Fits Most)
I just got off the phone with SMD, and here are a few additional details:
Capacity — They said that the packs' capacity was a bit on the larger size. Technically, the 65 liters is for main compartment, extension collar, and back pockets combined, but that the main compartment was maybe a bit oversized.
Color — no choice of colors.
Torso Sizing — The pack body comes in one size, but the torso length can be adjusted to fit most "normal" sized people. SMD said that they believed it could adjust down small enough to fit me at 15", but that no one at SMD was that small, so they don't know for 100% sure.
Hipbelt/Harness — Different sizes of hipbelts and harnesses are available, and the hipbelt pockets are NOT optional.
Bonded Pack Seams — Not a waterproofing feature; done for better seam finishing and durability.
Ordering Date — You can order them starting now!
Edited to (I hope!) increase clarity about sizes.
One size to fit all ? Tried quite a lot, but not a good idea imho.
There are two adjustable sizes I thought. There are tabs on the web page with all the details, specs, etc. Lots of info. Maybe they just added it.
"One size to fit all ? Tried quite a lot, but not a good idea imho."
No, it has an adjustable torso from 15 to 22". There are two yokes with different shoudler strap (padded portion) lengths – 18" and 15".
So like I said: one size to fit all. A few inches in either way, OK. But only one size for the full range of lengths, from 15" to 22". Mmm. Adjustable length in steps does not matter, packframe length doesn't change.
I think this is a reading comprehension issue.
The yoke slides up and down to fit a wide variety of torso sizes and is not fixed. In other words, it is fully adjustable up and down, increasing or decreasing torso length.
Ergo, the torso length is variably adjustable and one size does not fit all.

I just placed my order! Hope it arrives before my next trip.
Woubeir – I tried the Fusion at the GGG in January. The pack frame is a combination of three parts, as described on the SMD site:
https://www.sixmoondesigns.com/smdnews/155-fusion-pack-series.html
I watched many people try on the pack, adjusting the shoulder yoke's attachment to the spine such that it would fit each individual. I didn't see anybody who was not able to get a reasonable fit. Many of the people who tried it on were excited to buy one – and these are Gear Geeks who are very fussy about the packs they carry.
I'm not encouraging you to try one. But I don't want other readers to take your comments too seriously, as it sounds like you haven't yet tried the pack on.
No, I haven't tried it, but I've used other packs with an adjustable system and while popular, I'm in fact pretty sure, with also a strong knowlegde in (bio)dynamics that it's not as good as often claimed (till now at least). So both from a theoretical and a practical perspective I'm sceptical. But, of course, these packs deserve credit and perhaps they surprise me.
All looks good, with one exception:
Ron Moak appears to be an adequately literate chap. However, the descriptions on the web site for both Fusion models consistently ramble about "yoLk", and same goes for the hang tag sheets…
Yoke, people! What is so hard about using proper language?!
Little things like this tend to sour my experiences as I am no longer as confident about the Six Moons' attention to detail.
Still might try the packs though…. Not all is lost.
Interesting — I have an unusually short torso for my height, making me very hard to fit with packs, and I've had the opposite experience from Woubeir. The one-sized-pack-adjustable systems (like Deuter uses) enable me to get an excellent fit, whereas packs that come in specific S/M/L (like most Ospreys and many Gregory's) don't work for me, because my proportions are not "average".
Having watched SMD's video for the Fusion series, I am very excited about it. With a choice of harness size, hipbelt size, and a fully-adjustable torso measurement, I believe this pack could fit me like a custom pack, but at an affordable price.
I still wish I could access the website on my computer, but with a new product this interesting, it will be worth a trip to the library to look it over before I order one.
I applaud SMD for doing something to creatively bridge the gap between UL minimalism and more mainstream "Light Backpacking" (which is exactly where I am at). I know many of the folks on BPL will not be interested in a 2.5lb pack, but think of what kind of revelation this could be to the average REI backpacking customer for whom "light" is a 5lb pack!
@ Valerie:
It depends what you call "fully adjustable".
Don't forget that the Fusion series have incrementally adjustable torso length – as opposed to infinitely adjustable systems. The height of the yoke is based on pre-set discrete positions, similar to packs with fixed L/M/S torso sizes, which I would not call "fully adjustable".
The drawbacks of this design are obvious, as are the benefits – mainly cost savings due to making only one bag size.
Been checking the SMD website frequently and had checked this morning, wasn't up on the site for sale at that time, so I checked in here and lo and behold, the post beat me to it! So, of course, just placed an order for the Fusion 65.
"Yoke, people! What is so hard about using proper language?!"
LOL. Maybe the folks at six moons have laid an egg here and can't get that off their minds.
(Design looks great – just kidding)
been checking all week to get my order in but looks like I will have to wait a little longer. Website states, This product is currently not available. It will be available again on: 17.04.2014. Wow such a long wait and they sold out there completed stock in a few hours.
edit: my bad, they are no longer taking pre orders. I can only hope when I place my order on 4/17 that the lead time isn't to long.
It was never in stock to begin with. This is a pre-order for their first shipment, which is expected on the 17th.
They have never been IN stock.
They are simply taking pre-orders for them.
"We're now taking pre-orders for the new Fusion 50 & 65 Liter packs. We should start shipping around Mid-April."
I wish Ron and Brian much success.
No flight yet, thats the one I am really interested in.
Price looks reasonable in comparison to the competition.
" but think of what kind of revelation this could be to the average REI backpacking customer for whom "light" is a 5lb pack!"
This is the target audience. BPL not so much.
