Our troop has a trip planned up to the Cottonwood Lakes area of John Muir Wilderness just east of SEKI on the east side of the Sierra the weekend before Memorial Day. Our troop hasn’t really ventured far beyond the Southern California area in the past for backpacking trips. I’m looking to change that and have the boys to aspire to grander adventures. This trip is short mileage wise with a minimal elevation gain but gets them out in the lakes and granite the high sierra is famous for. Hopefully this trip will whet their appetites for longer treks.
