Just discovered this stuff at the recent GGG here in Kalifornia. Ken gave me a piece that is used on the Starlyte stoves as a simmer ring. Jon from Flat Cat Gear handed me (briefly) a larger piece to hold a hot item he was cooking, so that was how I met the stuff. Not sure how this could be used as a stove pad for snow camping, if it is worth redoing my hot pad material stove pad I made a few months ago. I ordered a sheet from Amazon for some small projects, first as a tiny pot grabber.

I squeeze the Batchstovez carbon felt pot coozie around my Zelph 2 cup Fosters pot so I can pick it up easily when a boil is reached. It's nice being able to leave it on the pot full time and not worry about it catching on fire or even getting warm when on the stove.
Right now I take the pot gripper from my Optimus 99 for trips where I use my Trangia fry pan lid for pancakes/bacon. It is pretty light and better than my finger tip silicone gripper which gets hot in a second or two. The piece I ordered will enable me to make a windscreen if wanted and enough left over for a few more things when I think them up.

Have you folks seen this — looks like a cheap, handy alternative?

This carbon felt could answer my hobo stove base problem. (Sticks on snow under stove catch fire: enough hassle & unsightliness me want improve.) Built one from a concrete of perlite, chopped fiberglass & stove gasket cement (water based). Ringed with fiberglass tape & all sealed with stove paint. Very light, but in use, paint fails vs gasket sealant & that sealant degrades with moisture. (Snow camping, here.)
How firm is this stuff? Sounds soft, so would want a top stiffener (some of my SS foil) as stove base. How absorbent? Would be fine if could hang or shake most all moisture out.
Curiosity: Charcoal burns. Why don't these carbon forms (incl.carbon fiber) also?
I read if it gets wet, it will conduct heat then, gotta keep it dry.
I saw the stuff MiniBull sells.
Soooo… could I get some carbon felt from Mini Bull and replace the (now scorched) neoprene pot cosy on my 1.5 L. Jet Boil pot and STILL get good heat containment and "fire profness" as well??
This is one of the cheapest places for Carbon felt: 3' by 3' for $23. Spend $25 and you get free shipping.

I am not affiliated with this company, I just buy carbon felt from them. Best regards – Jon
If you use carbon felt for a cozy or for lid insulation, it will pick up smells. I had a marmot chew on one that I left outside. I have also used them for stove insulation on snow. It will absorb water. BTW, I have also thrown some int he washing machine and it came out fine.
Thank you Jon. Good info.

Could this be used as a fire blanket or fire pan to build a small campfire on where they require its use?
