Anyone up for a Western Washington UL GGG?

I'll bite. But I think you might have missed the window for this season. Something like this maybe should be planned for next fall/winter (because of the necessary planning needed).
Also, remember the Seattle freeze will not help in the social area of getting responders.

Someone tried this a few years ago and it didn't get off the ground. I think you just need to plan it and see what happens. I know Ken would be a good resource for who, what, where, when, etc.

A bit north for me. Someone up there can do it. You only need a few people the first time and a good trip report after.

I'd like to do something at Crater Lake. But that's as far away for me right now.

Thank Ken, but Crater would be a very long drive from Seattle, though I'd like to go there too. Maybe you can have your next GGG there (you might need to adjust the dates so you don't have to deal with the snow).

I'm Seattle born and never heard of that. I can see the clique thing with some of the younger ones.

I've worked as staff on cultural events that drew 10,000 people over three days. Believe me, I know what it means to get into event planning.

I'm thinking of a group camp, hang out for a couple days, compare gear, get in a day hike to a local lake or viewpoint, have a little trail food pot luck dinner. An UL picnic if you will. Does that need to be complicated?

I'll kidnap the other guys from the Tri for it.

Never heard it called "The" Tri. Sounds Californish, like "the" 405. I really did date the daughter of the mayor of Kennewick. Whenever I visited, the sun tried to cook the skin off one side of my face while the wind attempted to sandblast the other side. I wasn't impressed with her either ;)

My $.02 would be to shoot for a weekend in August or September if it's going to be in the Cascades. I suspect that it'll be too small of a group to attract anyone from the cottage industry so maybe just focus on having fun at camp and a couple nice day hikes as suggested above.

I've never been there but Battleground Lake has a group site which should work. I'm working off of my phone at the moment but will check availability there and other parks closer to Seattle later tonight.

Thats what happened last time. I've only been in the area for seven years but it seems like a recurring theme: people from Seattle not wanting to come all the way to Portland, and people from Portland wanting to go all the way to Seattle. (Edward, I know you said you would go to PDX, I'm just loving how it always seems to end up)

I mean, is there nowhere at ST Helens for a group? On the blast side there's gotta be, right? St Helens is central-ish and easy to get to from I5. Rainer is a zoo in AUG/SEPT Goat rocks is far from everyone. Wenatchee is too far for Oregon drivers. —Well I just checked, and it says 4:45 drive time. Yaaa…. at four in the morning. But even if its six hours… that's not too bad. (I like to drive so to me 6hrs is still in the 'fun' realm, others probably don't agree) …and thats all the way to Wenatchie.

Goat Rocks is a parking lot and a TH, right? No 'campsites'? …never been there! Dammit… been wanting to for a while.

Coast Range? jk wait though… Saddle mtn may be what we need. Tillamook Forest. Its kinda in the middle of nowhere, though.

This campground has a small group site that'll accomodate 40 and another which'll accomodate 60; costs are $110 and $140 per night respectively.

Group Camping
The park features one large and one small group campsite. Both campsites are walk-in only and require crossing the Snoqualmie River on the park's 500-foot suspension bridge (wheelbarrows can be borrowed from campground host).

Large Site
Includes a large covered shelter, picnic tables, and raised fire pit
Accommodates multiple tents and up to 60 people

Small Site
Includes A-frame covered amphitheatre with two fire pits at each end and picnic tables
Accommodates multiple tents and up to 40 people

Mt. Si would be a fun day-hike near here. My truck seats six (front middle seat pretty cozy) so I can help shuttle out of towners. Direct flights into Pasco, WA (eastern Wa where I live) from Denver, Salt Lake, San Fran, Vegas, and a few others. Fly in there and I can help out with the ground logistics so you can skip a rental car. Fly to Seatac and we'll have to talk.

Edit to add: roughly 33 miles from Seatac. It's western Washington so there's the rain thing depending on time of year.
