As a noob backpacker (really new) sorting out hydration options I've been intrigued by the Geigerrig system.
At $59, not so much. But they are at the SLC Costco for $29 for the 2l size.

I was thinking of putting a Sawyer Mini outbound of the squeeze bulb and using the bag for dirty water and lashing it atop my pack.

I am a bit concerned though at the prospect of bacteria growth in the bag.

Not many references in older posts for Geigerrig here but I'd welcome input on this thought process.

Unless you really need pressurized water on demand there are much lighter alternatives. Gravity has enough force to work with the Sawyers.

The Geigerrig is great for day hikes when my intent is to get exercise. I'm not carrying much to begin with and a little weight only adds to the intensity. The spray is nice when it's hot or you want to get your dogs attention. I did have a bladder leak using a Sawyer filter. I don't think they were designed for much of a restricted flow or maybe I over pumped. They were fast to replace it under warranty with out me having to return the old bladder.
Good quality, good system, good company, heavy if you're trying to cut weight.
