Under "Web Specials" on the Sierra Designs website the 800 fp Gnar Hoody is 1/2 off ($99)and free shipping. Lots of sizes and colors available (mens & womens styles); it has thumb holes too. Several other great jackets on sale, some with the "Dridown" feature. Just ordered a sweet red jacket for my Xmas present! :)

This jacket looks great, but some online reviews mention down escaping from the seams.

Do you think this is a serious issue or "no more than other down jackets" type of thing?

Another question, do you know how is their sizing/fit?

Thanks!

I have not received mine yet and will post more info about sizing when I do. I am female but with broad shoulders and oddly (!!) long arms so I went with the mans small. (5'11"; 150lbs)

I went to several sites to look at reviews and felt, overall, that the feather issue (hopefully) was, as you said, maybe no more than 'the usual'. The reviews on Amazon, my go-to review site, were all quite positive… I'd say some of the best I've seen. I figured with the free shipping to me the worst Id have to do is pay ground shipping to retrun if bad, but my fingers are crossed!

Bought one for myself and my girlfriend, great deal! Mens small almost sold out except glacier color by the time I bought it, almost missed out!

Thanks for the heads up!

I agonized over the color – went with the red but the Glacier is really nice too – but all were available last night and almost waited til today to order. Glad I decided to pull the trigger – I so often wait too long and miss the great deals – and Happy you got one too! :)

Thank you! I just passed this along to my friend, who has been waiting for a deal on a good down hoody, and he immediately placed an order.

Thanks for the heads up. Stephen, I just picked up a leaf green in medium a few minutes ago. Definitely not my favorite color, but that was the only medium they showed in stock.

My new hoody came last night and, sad to say, it really runs small. I own MANY mens small jackets- it's my standard size- and if anything they tend to be a bit big (the way I want them). This one is too snug at the hipsband (probably ok for you guys with no hips) but I was more surprised to find the shoulders a bit snug. So sad, as it seemed perfect otherwise! So, back to looking for the prefect down jacket :( Hope others have better luck.

My friend ordered, and received, a large and it fits him perfectly. He's about 5'10", 170 lbs., with an athletic/muscular build. He was on the fence between a medium and large, but ended up happy that he got the large. He said the hood is a bit big and loose though, but with a big fuzzy beanie it should be fine.

I Just rec'd my Large. I am 6-1 175 42" chest…
I am surprised – the overall fit is fine, but it is tight in the chest when i cross my arms. Pit 2 pit it measures 24.5" so it must be the way it's cut. It's rare when a Large doesnt fit my lanky slim 42" chest. The hood is just fine, esp w/ beanie or ball cap, and the arms are slightly long, prob due to the thumb loops, which are quite the bonus; we will see more mfr's include this i predict.

Comparing it to the Montbell Alpine Light Jacket:
No way does it have the same amt of fill [specs say it has more]. The MB has nearly 3x the loft. I tumbled the gnar in the dryer w/ balls just 2b sure. Since the Gnar and MB Alpine Light Parka are both priced $199, I think the MB is in another category [true outer vs mid-layer]; its easily twice as warm; the UL Parka would be a closer comparison, by fill / loft. That said, for daily use, the MB is often too warm for me; i like this lighter weight hoody, despite what seems 2 me false advertising, or perhaps "false specs", as they seem to otherwise describe it accurately. It is also about an inch longer in torso length. Weighs 12.4 oz OMS, on my scale.

As far as fabric and garment weight/fill, the Gnar is on par w/ the Costco jacket. W the hood, thumb loops and chest pocket, it of course rises far above.

Edit:
This jacket is really growing on me…I just need one that fits!

Thanks for the fit updates – glad it worked for some and sorry to hear of the tight chest… Mine is headed back :(…. SO wish they had it in a medium. I do especially love the thumb holes, I have a couple of shirts with them and find that keeping the wrist covers really adds to the warm factor.

On the contrary, I ordered the medium, and I'd say it fits true to size (I usually wear mediums). I'm quite happy with the purchase (the thumb loops!) and I think this will be my go to sierra camping puffy.
