Still waiting on a daytime mountain lion in the spot with ocean view. A few weeks ago the big male with the ripped ear took a nap right on the lookout spot, at night. Last night a different mountain lion took a nap in the same spot. There are about 300 pictures of that, but here is a selection.
After that, a couple of pictures from today and then another post with some screen shots of videos I got. The quality of video with the new Reconyx XR6 is incredible, with sound in stereo…Mar 9, 2015 at 6:02 pm #2181259I paused some of my videos to get screen shots so that quality is not the greatest.
Today I got videos of two different cats, one with an injury on the shoulder that has had it limp for about six months now. This one was pretty cool when the cougar turned around like that..
This one stopped to scratch right in front of the camera and the sound was really good
Woke up from a nap and walked all dopey :)
Here I had left the camera less than twenty minutes before going in that same direction. The cat walked quite stealthily and carefully :-0
The injured cat. The video shows the gait/ injury quite well
Young one from this morning. Not injured.
It sat and cleaned itself…
This injured one is looking for the young one. They have been visiting the same spots and leaving scents..

Or, was that a catty remark?

Apr 18, 2015 at 6:19 pm #2193013The musculature of the front legs is very impressive.
Thanks for putting this up.
Apr 18, 2015 at 6:26 pm #2193015Wonder what's for dinner?
Apr 18, 2015 at 6:41 pm #2193020Thanks.

Apr 19, 2015 at 7:34 am #2193101Fantastic, Kat!
Apr 19, 2015 at 8:17 am #2193108Thanks everyone.
For those interested in the equipment, this is the new Reconyx XR 6, which is their first to do video. On Vimeo the video was compressed and lost some quality. It records in HD and the sound is in stereo. Unfortunately while Reconyx cameras are the fastest and don't miss a thing, this camera is slower to detect and trigger. Takes it 3 to 5 seconds, which is forever. Lots of missed events.Apr 25, 2015 at 6:02 pm #2194677The first two are screenshots from the stalking video I links to a few days ago
And this female came by the day after the territorial male left a scrape a few feet past the camera. Flehmen response here
Apr 25, 2015 at 10:26 pm #2194706gorgeous! I hope hope hope you get kitten shots a few months down the line.
Apr 25, 2015 at 10:53 pm #2194708"WOW!!!" Is all that I can say!
I've seen plenty of tracks on nearby trails, heard them growl over who gets to eat, even seen a couple of the local mountain lions as they cross the trail, but your videos are amazing.
Thanks so much for sharing the vimeo links!!!P.S. Those California Quail are the creepiest animals that I have ever seen. Yikes.
Apr 27, 2015 at 7:11 pm #2195165Kat, since your trained mountain lions are so great, can you train them to give you a "high five?" Of course, cat's paws being like they are, I'm not sure if they have five.

Apr 28, 2015 at 5:34 pm #2195417Let me add my "Wow!" to the crowd. What breath-taking animals; so beautifully captured. You're the Kat-ional Geographic Channel!
SO much better than the rattlesnake I almost stepped on today on my morning run. [shudder]
May 13, 2015 at 2:05 pm #2199240Thanks everyone.

May 13, 2015 at 5:14 pm #2199292In our neck of the woods bobcats alone take 1/3 of the fawns.
Jun 14, 2015 at 3:10 pm #2207174That last one I uploaded a few minutes ago of the limping mountain lion was from last night. I was there 20 minutes earlier, alone….does that count as HTFU?
Jun 14, 2015 at 3:23 pm #2207178Very cool stuff. Your own personal zoo.
"That last one I uploaded a few minutes ago of the limping mountain lion was from last night. I was there 20 minutes earlier, alone….does that count as HTFU?"
Sure, for the mountain lion. He was the one limping….
Jul 11, 2015 at 1:13 pm #2214015Checked a few cameras. Lots of activity. Have not checked all of them yet.
Different cat
Something knocked that camera upside down
Lots more coming :)
Jul 11, 2015 at 1:34 pm #2214019Beautiful, Kat!!! Can't wait to see the rest. Is the last one a mama fox and kit?
Jul 11, 2015 at 1:58 pm #2214022Thanks! It is a fox kit. I even got the nicest little video of it, but sad news I am afraid. The first 15 seconds of the video are as cute as can be then the mom and kit go behind the camera and it really sounds like something got the little guy. Brutal out there.
