I CAN'T believe it! I missed the pre-purchase window for ordering the Cocoon Pants and was hoping they would be available by this summer. Then last night I got the email that they are now in stock. I came home from work today and logged on to put in the order and ALREADY THEY ARE OUT OF STOCK AGAIN!!!!! Oh come on! Just how many times do I have to miss being able to order this item? It's getting totally absurd.

Cocoon Pants Already Out of Stock????

Miguel, there are good solid alternatives—the Patagonia Micropuff Pants and the Montbell equivalent. In some ways they have some advantages over the somewhat lighter Cocoon—-namely zips—useful for ventilation and for getting the pants over your shoes w/o taking them off.
The other thing that might happen is that there could be some returns back to BPL—-you might inquire about the possibilities.
Good Luck.
Yea they're already out of stock but just in small and medium. Holy crap i'm glad i pulled the trigger immediately yesterday and was still worried until I got the ship notice today.
The Cocoon Side-zip pants in med. are still available. I was tempted by these over the zipless pants…
speaking of alternatives, I was looking at the integral designs plq pant(I think that's what they are called)the other day, a couple of ounces heavier, about 20$ cheaper, and they seem to usually be available. they apear to be virtually the same pant, same basic style and function.
as an aside, I think I speak for a lot of us on a limited gear budget (those of us who have to save up for a while to buy big ticket items)when I say that cocoon stuff is kind of frustrating, it looks good, but by the time the word from the field comes back that it does, in fact perform as promised, and you get the cash saved up, they are gone from this world with no chance of seeing them again for god knows how long, so you either wait, or buy something else.
Yep, I always forget about the ID pants. A very solid alternative for a basic insulated pant. Perhaps a little harder to get in Japan, Miguel, but if you need help, let me know.
Yeah, I know. I've been looking at the ID pants for some time… but that's not the point. Sending someone an email announcing that something is available and then your having to rush in and tackle everyone else like shoppers in a bargain baement sale all trying to get that one hard-to-find item… well it's pretty ridiculous don't you think? I mean twelve hours hadn't even passed! (and since it is the middle of the night here when everyone is awake and has a chance to order stuff there, I get even less chance to make it to the fray) And it happens every single time! Why can't stocks be raised to meet the higher demand? Why do members here, who supposedly get a discount for some reason, continually have to miss out on the deals and wait forever to get their most wished for items? With the very unpredictable sales dates you can't even plan for buying any of the items. And how many of you bought the Cocoon rather than the ID pants?
Worth b-itching to Ryan Jordan about—maybe?
Sorry… (^J^)?" Just frustrated. I've bitched about it before and it's just not worth spending too much energy on again. Just needed to get the frustration out of my system.
I was thinking about this today at work, and I've come to the conclusion that cocoon stuff is basically for early adopters, like Kevin, someone who is willing to take the risk of buying something sight unseen and word-of mouth unheard. I am just not that financially bold, and I guess miguel wasn't either if he missed the prepurchase as well, unless what just occurred (rapid selling out of cocoon pants) happened to him back then too.
Anyway, a lot of what we value about the cocoon stuff, or any cottage manufactured hard to find gear is its exclusivity, it's not easy to acquire. I mean it's for sure light, but (and I know this is heresy) an ounce give or take will not make or break most trips that most of us do.
This was not the first run of the pants. They've been available before—-I missed out on that round.
My feeling about a Cocoon product
get it, check it out, return if it doesn't meet your expectations. There's also an aftermarket for these puppies. It's a win-win situation. They're that good.
Guys- if it makes you feel any better, I've been working for BPL since 2003. When the first wave of Cocoon pants came out, I jumped on them (no early notice for employees) and got a pair of larges. TOO BIG! So I immediately went for the exchange and they were already gone. ARGH!
The original order was placed 12/28/05. So I just got my exchange pair last week…over 1 1/2 YEARS later!
A big drag? Definitely. Worth the wait? Yes. Just wanted you to know it's the same for all of us.
I know one problem for BPL is overhead. Hopefully very successful sell-outs like this will provide more cash for extra stock in the future and will lead to more informed ordering of shipments. Remember, this is still a very tiny company.
Anyway, I feel your pain.
Doug
And you know what's cool and totally new for BPL…how many of these items are still in stock! How many times have we found almost none of the BMW products to be in stock? Many, many. Very cool that there is still some on hand, even if a few sizes of a few items are out…
Well, I wasn't going to buy it at first, because of the expense, but since I'm too busy at work to finish my own design I've been working on for more than a year, I decided to see if it was possible to order the Arctic Pack. It shipped today! So I'll see it in a few days. If it's what I think it is I think that will be the pack I take to Europe this summer. Might even be just the ticket for the check-in/ carry on dilemma I was having, making the duffel option a bit more versatile.
