I guess this is the section to post this. Has anyone tried to sip coffee from one? I like how its a bowl/cup at the same time.

I always thought the Sierra Club was the worst design ever. You cannot drink from one without spilling all over. They don't hold much. Anything hot poured into one gets cold almost instantly. And they are too small to serve as a bowl.

For those who feel that a Sierra cup is too small, then try out a Cascade cup. It is just about the same shape, but it has a greater volume. However, I've seen those only in stainless steel, and I guess it never caught on with titanium.

In the old, old days, everybody on a group trip would bring a Sierra cup. But you didn't want to get your cup mixed up with anybody else's. So, everybody would attach something special to personalize their own cup. It might be a safety pin, a micro-carabiner, a red string, a split-ring, or just about anything.

So are the lightest weight tupperware/ziplock food storage containers. It took a bit of digging in the garage to actually find a Sierra cup, but I did:

Sierra cup (max 9-10 ounces, but the shallow-sloped sides mean, really 6-7. MAYBE 8 ounces): 82 grams

Heavy-duty, 16-ounce, steep-sided Ziplock container WITH screw-top lid: 40 grams.

Above without lid: 32 grams.

Lightweight, Ziplock-brand, 20-ounce food-storage container without lid: 20 grams.

FOUR 20-ounce containers – enough to feed your family all at once – weigh less than ONE Sierra cup. And don't slosh so much or burn your lips and hands.

Only if you also want it to be lousy pot, lousy shovel and lousy bear bell does it start to (dimly) shine.

Sierra cups were an ingenious piece of art. For all the little faults, they were easily ignored. If you ever used a Rocky cup, then you know it overcame all the itty bitty inconveniences. If anyone is interested I could go find a Rocky cup in the garage and post a picture.

I remember how cool it was to have a sierra cup hooked over one's belt but that was, oh…43 years ago. I agree, they're lousy in just about any application. I have a double walled titanium with a sip top that I like alot, but there are much lighter cups out there.
