Hey Folks,

So I'm backpacking the Yosemite High Country for 2-3 days Sept 27-29 (The Vogelsong / Lyell Canyon Loop). I wanna do one more 2-3 day'r before it gets cold, so i was thinking either Mid-Sept or Mid-Oct. Somewhere not overly strenuous and with lots of trees. Already did the Ohlone Wilderness and Point Reyes. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

in Pre Trip Planning…

Don't go to Sykes.

Been to Henry Coe State Park?

if you want lots of trees, henry coe isn't the best. there are a variety of options in the santa cruz hills, or down in ventana wilderness. I won't unconditionally warn you away from Sykes, but I will say it's over crowded on the weekends. If you go mid-week in the late fall or winter the crowds are gone and it can be quiet pleasant. you might want to check your local library for books by Matt Heid. He has written a couple of books which do a fairly good job covering the local options with full trail descriptions.

Check out Big Basin and Butano state parks in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Lots of trees, nice waterfalls in Big Basin. The bay area is also a close drive to trailheads off of highways 80, 50, 88, 4 etc. Hopefully the fires will wind up soon.
