I'm interested in doing this so i can pack cold food for the day (or the occasional drink!) and put it in my current big backpack. I'd be interested to hear thoughts about this.

If you have a sleeping bag or whatever, put cool stuff inside it, it will have a lot more insulation
I use my OR water bottle insulator for small items. The older ones are best.
