So, Jennifer, you are wondering just how the heck that gaiter ended up in the pocket of your windshirt? Well, it works like this: In Iceland, they have various sorts of huldufolk (the hidden people). Elves, dwarfs, imps, etc. One type is mischievious with little malice in their hearts. They like to do things to mess with you.
For example, let's say you have a habit of placing your car keys on top of the TV when you get home from work, every day. Every morning as you head out, you grab your keys from where they always are. But one morning they aren't there. You frantically look everywhere, and you finally find them on your bedroom dresser. You start to think you're going crazy, because you never, ever put them there. Always on top of the TV. Relax–it wasn't you that put the keys there, it was one of those pesky huldufolk guys. He slipped in while you were sleeping and quietly moved them from the TV to your dresser, and then he went back to his comfortable rock outside.
The Icelanders don't have to fret about brain-lock or senior moments, because those things are really the work of the impish hidden people. I think it's a great philosophy to live by. One of those little guys cleverly placed your gaiter in the windshirt pocket while you weren't looking.
And Bob's your uncle.
