Anyone have experience with the Fire Maple Stoves? Especially the lightest… which I think is 1.5 oz. Would be nice to know your thoughts on them.
And where to buy… or should I avoid?
thanks,
Bill Davidson

A number of models have been discussed.

I bought a 300T Hornet off eBay, Arrived in good condition.

Used it first time in field this weekend. Super light and worked well.
I bought my 300T Hornet from the Amazon seller, 4ucycling. Shipping and delivery times were withing the time frame indicated.
Read Roger Caffin's BPL article "Recent Developmens in Canister Stoves" (2013-03-12). I agree with Roger's comments particluarly in how the 300T #works.
I like it so much, I have just ordered the Maple FMS 118 (which can use liquid feed) as a cold winter stove. Again I ordered it thru Amzon/4ucycling.

problems I've heard about, like after it gets warm sputtering or going out completely? Or have they fixed this problem?
thanks
Bill D
The 118 definitely does have a sputter problem. At least in my experience. It may be a batch fault and not a design flaw as Roger Caffin didn't mention it in his article on stove developments. The sputter can be fixed with a bit of DYI involving inserting a copper or steel wire. Have a look here: http://blog.hillmap.com/2013/02/fixing-fire-maple-fms-118-inverted.html
I did it and it works but you need the right sort of wire and the process can be frustrating, but I think my stove may be faulty anyway so I've ordered another to compare…
My 117T seems to work fine.
Jeremy,
thanks for your comments… keep us posted on if your new unit also sputters or noe. Nice to know there is a fix, but doubt I would trust that on a long backpacking trip. Need a dependable stove.
Bill
One guy posted a video on YouTube of his stove dying, but it was pretty obvious that he had a blocked jet.
I have never had that problem, and have probably used mine a lot more than him.
Cheers
I wonder how many of these Fire Maple stoves have blocked jets… a problem I'd like to avoid on a week long backpack.
If it was an issue with one batch and they acknowledged and now it's fixed, fine… I could see buying one…
But if the problem is sporadic and unpredictable… I'd rather have a heavier, more reliable stove…
anyone have any idea if the problem is fixed?
bill
See this thread about the jet.
Cheers
