Ideas? It didn't sound like these would work for streams but this community has be so great at giving advice I'll throw this up on the board for debate. Still considering something like this as camp shoes / steam crossers for two weeks in Sierras but will likely just try and use light supermarket plastic bags around shoes to wade through.
If I get wet some then its no big deal anyways.

I'll take Gore Tex socks so I can wear my wet shoes in camp and have warm dry feet. I don't wear them while hiking.
I wouldn't want to damage a $50 pair of socks that way. If you are going to cross in socks you should use neoprene socks. But they won't protect your feet at all. It will be like crossing barefoot. You can seriously hurt your feet crossing a swift river barefoot.
Plastic bags might work but if you slip on a rock your shoe will tear right through the plastic.

I bet you would wear them hiking if your feet became too cold, like if you walked through snow, right? They seem like a great option for an emergency.
If you don't' want to just walk through the water wearing your shoes, then I'd recommend getting a pair of Vivobarefoot Ultra's or Ultra Pure's for water crossings and camp shoes. I would not wear the gore tex socks as shoes.
@ Justin. I would. They just are not the most comfortable for hiking in, for me.
