Medium-wide inflatable pads?

There was a thread about this a bit ago. I think there is a huge market (at least here…) for a medium length (or even short) wide pad. Oh well.

I agree with Jennifer; I 'd buy one!

The only one I can think of is the TaR NeoAir Trekker Long Torso at 47' x 25". The only problem with this model is the low R-value of 2.

Plenty of room for the big Neo without an inner net in my experience. But being 6'3" myself I think being on top of that thick pad will have you too close to the ends. I sold my mid, twice. I did not ever use an inner. Would be way too short. Have you tried this on for size?

I've ordered the mid, but it's a long way off being built, so I'm sure I've still got room to move… I'm considering the trailstar… but I like the idea of the mid and would probably suffer the narrow, regular pad if need be…

I found it too short without an inner. Would be unusable for me with an inner. Mids are great. I and a small band of tall kids are pressuring Ron @ MLD to come out with a longer version. He says he will. I want to try a 2012 Lunar Solo from Six Moon Design.

Yep. It appears to be 1 season. But at 25oz, there's the klymit pad with R= 4.4

Happy to pay the neoair premium, I just want the size I want :(… I had another go on my GFs regular mens xtherm last night… I could live with the narrowness, but it's far from ideal.

Well, I dunno about other's, but my Large Xtherm doesn't meet spec dimensions. Unless I inflate it to bursting, it's a couple inches longer than it's supposed to be (79" instead of 77"), and it's more like 23" wide, no where near the claimed 25.

It's better than a regular, but it doesn't have the width of a Large Ridgerest by any means.

I know they're not listening, but if they are: Cascade Designs, get your minds right. Produce a Regular Length, 25" (inflated) width Xtherm and Xlite. Seriously. WTF are you smoking?

Has anyone done a width comparison between the regular neoair and medium exped?

I've read a couple of scant reports that they are ~1 inch wider (ie. honest about the widths) and I reckon that could just do me… especially combined with a rectangular shape for more foot space and the vertical baffles to stop me falling off :)

plus, the downmat 7 UL is bizarrely cheap in Australia (same price as if I import a regular neoair…) and is stupid warm for a 25% weight increase over the regular xtherm

I compared the two of them a few years and I recall the Exped was at least an inch wider.

Plus the raised outer baffles on the Exped help keep you on. I never liked how the sides of the Neo Air would collapse unless you inflated it to within an inch of its life.

Neo Air was a solid concept. Exped is a better execution.

BTW I bought the LW Exped Synmat UL thinking I'd need the extra width. Quickly returned it a replaced with the regular width pad – that's been plenty for my 5'9" 180lb frame.

I bought a regular synmat a few years ago, back before they did UL and when I couldn't afford the then-new neoair… I went LW because I thought I'd need it… and that thing is just too much luxury haha, and subsequently too much weight…

If I go down the inner net route (if I choose to bivy a lot of this may be moot), I expect I'll get a bearpaw inner ahead of my duomid (the joys of MLD's popularity) so I should be able to experiment a bit with what fits… full length pad may be ok to get the width, but I suspect making do with 72×20" will be required.

I would LOVE a 64" long, 25" wide inflatable. It would be perfect for side sleepers!! Why oh why does no one do this???

Pretty cheap, heavy for R-value. Regular Static V is probably the best one season, summer option I've seen.

This seems like a good option if you want a winter pad only – range of lengths and widths available. Designed to go inside their bags, but seems fine for use outside. Weight to size ratio seems similar to the Exped Downmat UL7.

I'm considering this (as I do want a winter pad). However the Exped is a lot more engineered, ie better pump and valves, material (major manufacturer vs cottage), rectangular (personal preference for side sleeping), a little lighter if I can live with 20" width, and similarly priced (for me in Australia). Basically I'm going to jump on the downmat in the next little while and if I still would like the extra couple of inches I'll buy the 70"x24" Stephenson's…
