I have a Coleman Exponent Cookset which consists of two pots but only one lid. This is really annoying as the lid is sized to fit the larger pot but I only ever use the smaller pot. So, I made my own lid from 1mm aluminium sheet with some smple metal bashing. Result!

Mar 10, 2013 at 8:32 am #1963827Yeah, that is some mighty fine bashing. Must've used an iRock.
When the page first loaded on my phone, I was waiting for a second picture to load because I thought the picture was of the original lid and that there would be a second one of a crudely bashed one.Awesome work!

Mar 10, 2013 at 4:18 pm #1963998That's a beautiful lid. You can sell 'em!
Mar 10, 2013 at 4:46 pm #1964006What did you use as you pot lid lifter?
Mar 10, 2013 at 5:53 pm #1964024So how did you form the lip?

+1 on what everyone else said!
But don't leave us hanging … ya gotta tell us about yer bashing technique.
Mar 10, 2013 at 9:04 pm #1964099I suspect the pot lid handle is a left-over valve (handle).
Yeah – was it pressed, spun or brutally hammered?
Cheers
Mar 11, 2013 at 1:30 pm #1964342I used a scrap piece of 1/4" aluminium to create a sort of template – it has a curve at the radius to form the lip of the lid.
The 1mm aluminium sheet was attached to the template by a screw thru the centre, so it could be rotated about the template. Then the lid + template were clamped to the bench and the lip formed by gently hitting with a small lump hammer against a blunt cold chisel. The best technique to avoid warping the lid is to go around the circumference several times, each time making the lip just a little deeper. A vise was used to square off the lip edge and finally excess material was filed off the edge.
Roger is right about the handle – it was left over from an early stove project.Mar 11, 2013 at 2:50 pm #1964372Thanks for the "howto". Very clever.
