Need a little help on making a decision regarding a sleeping pad. I have been looking at the Xtherm since it is pretty warm, but I think I want to go 25 inches wide, which makes it pretty heavy( 1lb 6oz). Was a little worried about the noise issues I have read about and durability. I have not had nor slept on an inflatable yet, so just a little puncture shy. But I have a quilt coming from Enlightened Equipment tomorrow and with the REI dividends and I am sure the 20% coming up I need to figure things out.
My ridgerest is 20 inches wide and while if covers my back my arms fall off. Being a back sleeper that might get annoying. So now I am thinking the xlite in a large at 16 ounces so I get my precious 25 inches. But once again the noise thing has me a little worried. At least they have this one in stock at the REI so I can check it out. But I will lose R value and will probably have to supplement in the winter I am guess. I really hate my ridgerest because it is so hard to pack on my Circuit, makes things wide lol.
So I need some help deciding on the pad. I like wide but don't really need the 77 inches that all the large seem to come in. I wrote to Thermarest to see if they did custom work or had plans for a short but wide pad. They said no to both, but did say if they got enough requests they would look into it. Maybe we should all campaign for a short wide Xtherm. So what do I need to be looking at pad wise.
Oh I plan on getting a tent at some point. I have a tarp now but not sure I want to mess with bug-netting and stuff. currently I am looking at a tarptent moment if that matters as far as pads.
