I have been researching single wall solo tents and have gotten a little confused and would like a question answered. The Rab Summit Extreme and the Outdoor Designs Summit Extreme appear to be the same tent. Is this so? If not, what's the difference?

Outdoor Designs was taken over by Rab – the design of the tent is essentially the same though under OD it was goretex and now with Rab its event. also i think OD shipped their version with carbon poles as well as easton poles, Rab easton poles only.
i have had the Rab verson for a few months now but so far have only pitched it in the lounge!
Both companies are part of the same group and Rab took over the tent production whilst Outdoor Designs concentrated on other sections of the market. There still appears to be Outdoor Design shelters around which are the same as Rab products. eg Rab Ridge Raider Bivy (OD Solo Raider) available from both companies.
The OD version is quite heavy with Alloy poles and pegs. The rab one is lighter.
The design is very small. Literally a bivy bag with a hoop. It has all the weight of a tent with the space of a bivy. You don't get fabric in your face but that is about all.
AHA! Great timing my friends. Expect a full review of the Rab Summit Extreme to be up on the site very, very soon. The Outdoor Designs version was previous reviewed on this site- have a look!
They are more or less the same tent but the Rab version is eVENT (wow) but uses aluminum poles instead of the Outdoor Designs Easton FX carbon poles. Unfortunately, the Rab version is about 10 ounces heavier (heavier fabric plus heavier poles).
But wait until you see the review- it will all be very clear in there!
Cheers,
Doug
I look forward to the review.
Thanks,
