I was looking at the map of Toronto last night, and I figured those were exactly the spots you would hit. I've didn't realize those parks existed behind Billy Bishop airport.
Regardless of which boat you choose, a good way to save money is to get some used gear on craigslist/kijiji. I've picked up all my kayaking gear on craigslist: wetsuits, kayak booties, neoprene booties, kayak gloves, throw bag, paddle. I've picked up farmer john style wet suits for as low as $10.
awesome!!! thanks!

Oh, yeah- if all you intend is gunkholing near shore I suspect that a packraft will work just fine. I'd just be sure to check the weather and avoid days with any significant wind if you're in an unprotected area because, as mentioned already, you'll get pushed around quite a bit. That get's tiring and is potentially dangerous (especially near the ferry).
Ya. Gunkholing is what I'd be doing. Even with a badass featherlight or Folbot I probably wouldn't trust my skills to set off alone to cross the lake out to Niagara or something… so until I make friends, the raft and gunkholing are where it's at ;) (I really like that word, had to google it to figure out what it meant but it's fun to say!)
So scary! So excited!
Just bit the bullet and VISAed a banana yellow Alpacka raft w/ sawyer paddle, cruiser deck and pack attach system.
And now to implement the "eat less at restaurants and drink less beer" regimen I convinced myself could easily pay for this raft ;)
YAYAYAYAYAYAY!
Note: the banana yellow colour or color for you guys south of the border is just in case I get a little too cocky on the waters and end up on the six o'clock news… i'll be easier to rescue!
Thanks again for all your help. If I plant firmer roots around a body of water, I'll start saving up for a folding kayak too.
