NZ possums hate living in NZ so much that they have been known to dive towards stray bullets just to put an end to their lives.

Has their quality improved or will I blow out a fingertip in a week? Everyone I know who wear these love them, but the gloves are always ratty, full of holes.

Yes they are very warm but fragile.treat them as you would a MontBell UL jacket, not as a working layer but as a warm at rest layer or under layer.

I should say that my experience differs from those who have found possum down gloves fragile. I have a pair from the old BPL store which I've had for a couple of years. They've seen hundreds of trail miles and have even been worn during minor trail maintenance (removal of small to medium branches) without the slightest hint of a hole. I realize mine is a dissenting view, so take it for what it's worth.

Same here, I use them only when hiking in the winter. I have noticed that if they get snow on them, it seems to infiltrate the material, slow to dry, but otherwise nice and warm when moving. I'd get another pair when these go south.

Some NZ sources of mixed wool and polyprop.

I also bought mine from the BPL store and they are in great shape. Although I sometimes wear them without outer protection, most of the time I will wear them under Manzella silkweight windstopper gloves. They make a great combination.
