So…I'm thinking about picking up one of these comforters and taking the down out of it to make a top quilt with (or sleeping bag…still not sure which route I want to go):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1200-Thread-Count-Siberian-Goose-Down-Comforter-100-Egyptian-Cotton-750FP-50oz-/221100646571?pt=US_Comforters_Sets&var=&hash=item337aa020ab$130 shipped for 50oz of 750FP down…Is $2.60/oz a good deal for 750FP "Siberian Goose" down?
*** cross-posting to MYOG…meant for this to be posted there and I can't delete this.
Aug 29, 2012 at 9:15 am #1907196I would concur.
Aug 29, 2012 at 9:47 am #1907219Not sure about the quality of that down, but a lot of folks have purchased the pillows at the link below with good results. You can usually get them for $2-$3 per ounce. I think there is something like 26oz in a King/soft pillow. Google can help you find the quantity per pillow if interested.

Aug 29, 2012 at 12:17 pm #1907273It's cheaper to buy down from Feathertex.
Aug 29, 2012 at 5:16 pm #1907379Doesn't mean it's necessarily bad down, but there's no such thing as "Siberian" goose down. Geese do not and cannot live in Siberia. That's a branding thing–but I don't know enough about down to be able to tell about the price.
Aug 29, 2012 at 9:42 pm #1907466Any idea what fill power you get from the Feathertex 100% down?
Aug 29, 2012 at 9:47 pm #1907468A guy on Wintertrekking.com said it was better than 700 fp. I wish I knew myself, but they were out of stock the last time I needed down.
