Jeffrey, yes, you can watch some of your results as your body adapts to the thinner air. Almost immediately your respiration increases, partly due to deeper tidal volume (you are breathing deeper). Your pulse rate increases and oxygen saturation probably decreases slightly. Those are the effects of short-term acclimatization. The long-term effects won't be seen for a week or two, and they won't be seen very strongly at 8700 feet. If you want to see those effects, then go up to 15,000 or 20,000 feet for a month.
