I wonder if people used Evernew bags with Sawyer Squeeze, those bags would fail also?

Yeah, saw the one at trail designs but when you select the size it doesn't have a button to add it to your shopping cart like the other items, so I'm assuming they are out of stock too. And they only have the small one. Maybe I'll shoot them an email and see when they are getting more – they have great customer service. I'll report back any info

I just received a couple of 900ml bags I bought off ebay. A simple experiment at home confirmed that they form a tight seal with the sawyer filter. Durability is another question to be determined in the field.

Don't forget about the Tsunami. Evernew production was effected.

I used a two liter Evernew for 800 miles of the pct this year, along with my sawyer filter. No issues with either.

Did you use a Sawyer Squeeze?

The Squeeze puts extra force on the bag. You push on the bag to force water through the filter. Also, the filter screws onto the bag, and then it exerts twisting force on the bag.

I assume if you are very careful, it won't be so bad.

Maybe they need to make a bag that's stronger. Like Sawyer could. Their bags currently appear to be weaker than Evernew.

CycloCamping.com had the 1500 ml ones in stock the other day. Ordered two for my Sawyer Squeeze.

Actually, I bought the adapters and used the squeeze filter inline mostly, but occasionally, maybe once every other day, used it in camp by squeezing it. Loved the inline use of it. Just dont order sawyer products from the company, very poor customer service!

I'm no real help, but my normal 2l Platypus with a standard cap works well on the Sawyer Squeeze. It's a gamble though.

So water doesn't leak around the threads?

My Platypus has a different thread pitch than the Sawyer. It sort of works, but water leaks a little.

No, I couldn't detect any leakage from the threads. There is a washer inside the Sawyer filter. I think it came with one, but there's a possibility that I put it there and forgot. The threads seem to match well. I know others haven't had the same experience though, so there's obviously some variability somewhere, likely in one or both products.

So I emailed Rand at trail designs and he said they are expecting some more evernew water containers in the next couple of weeks. He said he's going to shoot me an email when they come in.

Old platypus fits well, that's the ones that are squared off, not curved. Not sure if there is a middle generation I missed that might also fit, but the new ones do NOT fit, not with any washers I tested, thin, thick.

However, I did note one thing a few weeks ago on a trip, you really do not need to squeeze very much, just start the thing going, then you can let it go without any further squeezing until the dirty bag is dry, so that might make the sawyer bags last longer. Personally I skipped them, and used old 1 L platypus and I also brought a 2L evernew which I ended up never using, didn't need it.

I also got the adaptor for the clean water end of the sawyer, and put a short 4" or so length of tubing on that, made it easy to fill the bottles.

I would give the sawyer two thumbs up, best new product I've used in years, only reason I'll ever bring any AM is as an emergency backup.

Still have to work out a decent prefilter system, probably will go with the method someone here recommended, cut metal coffee filter crammed into dirty water end.

But this filter is so nice to use, and will gravity filter after you start it, goes slower, but works totally fine.

Heck, I don't squeeze mine at all. I just fill it up, rest the filter in the opening of my Kleen Kanteen (fits perfectly), prop it upright against bushes or rocks and walk away. Fills my bottle with zero other input. Haven't timed it but it seems to take less than 5 mins.

I spoke with the Evernew USA rep on the phone this week and he said that he expected a large delivery into the port of Los Angeles within the week and that retailers should have them back in stock within a couple of weeks.
