Did it have to be a McDonalds? So nasty. It kind of fits the general feeling of that intersection though. I think a good taco truck could make a killing there.
Love the line about your partner's packing strategy.
Great writing. I especially enjoyed the flashback to imagining the mother showing berries to her child and then back to present-day McDonald's.
I like your brief references to the beauty of your walk tucked away amongst the main story line.
Air conditioning and water when it's 100°F is part of the attraction to McDonalds.
