Does it seem to you as well that the padded strap sections are too short most of the time? Like they use the same length for every size.

Indeed. Apparently if your have a long torso, your guts get thinner.

With the Nimbus, you can swap out for different harnesses but GG is notorious for undersizing or oversizing torso sizes so I am curious about the different harnesses.

They are definitely different lengths. I continue to use GG packs (and Nimbus in particular) specifically because they are the longest shoulder straps I've been able to find on ANY pack. I use the XL trim, but I believe I have a shorter set somewhere. I'll dig through the closet and measure them and post it up.

Most comfortable packs ever in my opinion. I'm also experimenting currently with a Gossamer Gear hipbelt. With that and a severely modified framesheet I'm getting pretty close to 2 pounds in a Nimbus pack. Not bad for what I consider the best shoulder harness system available.

Okay – measuring from the beginning of the padded part of the top, going down the top center of the shoulder strap and ending at the seam at the bottom of the lower end, I get 20" on a medium trim set and 23" on an XL trim set. Both measured with a flexible sewing tape measure. Depending on which holes you attach them to on the frame, you can add 2-3" for the grommet "flap" that attaches to the pack.

Hope that helps. As far as I know there are no longer straps available on any pack outside of custom-made shoulder straps. I'm eager to know if anyone knows of others – particularly in sub-2 lb packs.

I would expect a bigger difference between the medium and XL shoulder straps. 23" is really long. How wide is your chest measurement if you don't mind me asking…?

Keep in mind that you can sort of falsely shorten (or lengthen) these straps by the holes you use to mount them. There are many combinations of holes (on both the straps and the frame) that you can tinker with to get a perfect fit.

These days I'm an XL in most things, but the XL Trims fit me well back when I was XXL and even XXXL. Now they are almost too long. I like to have the straps run more in front of my chest than along side (in my armpits) however, so I like the extra length.
