Hello, I've been browsing this forum for a long time, and want to thank all you guys for helping me pick and build most of my UL gear!
I currently have a Kelty Red Cloud 5000 St backpack, 5lbs 7oz on my scale, a very heavy backpack. I'm on the search for a lightweight back that will perform as good as this one and has the features that I need it to have.
1. Have buckles to strap my tent on the bottom of the back, I keep my tent on a stuff sack and refuse to keep it inside my backpack =).
2. Be around 5000 ci, I carry the greater amount of gear for 2 people, sometimes 3, I need the space, I can go as low as 4000 ci.
3. I keep my rain gear on top compartment of the pack, and usually keep water filtration and first aid kit in the front pocket, I would like a backpack that has good gear management, also a compartment for sleeping bag would be great, I don't want to have to dig through the backpack anytime I find a water source, it rains or when I pitch camp.
4. Hip belt to distribute the weight, and be able to hold up to 15-40 lbs of gear comfortably, most of the weight will be liquids, food, sleeping bags and tent.
I've seen a few backpacks that seem to fit the bill, Golite is having a sale on the Odyssey which is 2 lbs less than my pack and is a bit larger, but I could do with a smaller lighter pack!
I'm 6 ft tall, 165lbs. If you need any more info let me know =), btw I've only owned backpacks with internal frame.
