Help me choose a color for my future duomid

I can't pick for you, but I'd cut out gray and choose between either brown or yellow.

I have a yellow TrailStar and like it. I like being able to see the shelter through the trees, like after a dayhike or for other backpackers to see it to know I've already set up in an area. It can be overcast in the PNW and the yellow can be a little more cheerful if you have to stay under it for a while.

However, if you favor the idea of a more stealthy shelter, go for the brown. Also, for whatever reason, I don't hear about that MLD brown sil quite as much here on BPL, it'd be nice to have something a little different.

I have an olive brown Duomid. Nice and stealthy and provides great shade. Keeps the moonlight out. Too much of that gray Silnylon out there.

I didn't realize I had color options when I ordered my trailstar, so I ended up with gray. I don't mind it, but if I could do it over, I would go with the olive brown. I like the stealth aspect. The gray is stealthy too, but pretty generic and the same color as lots of other sil shelters out there.

On the other hand, the yellow looks great for photos with your shelter in them, especially in the snow!

I love the brown / green! It blends in nicely.

I chose gray for my trailstar because I liked that it would blend with granite easily. Now that Ive had it for a while, Im pretty jelly of everyone's yellow shelters. They look too good!

Yellow is a pretty cheerful color for a shelter. I like that even on an overcast day waking up under my yellow Trailstar can still feel sunny.

I'm pretty happy with the yellow – I like bright and cheery shelters.

I have an old eureka tent with a yellow fly. I never liked the color inside of it. I was pleasantly surprised when I first used my TT Rainbow at the color accuracy inside the tent. It made it easy to find things, though it got hot and bright when the sun came out, hard to sleep. Not a bad thing if you sleep in like me though!

I have two yellow tents, and I like yellow because it makes it easier to find my tent. I know it should always be where I left it, but somehow it never seams to be in the same place when I get back to the campsite after a short hike :) My cars do that in large parking lots too.

The one thing I have noticed is that the bugs seem to like the yellow tents better for some reason. The grey and green ones do not attract the bugs like the yellow ones do, even when they are set up right next to each other.

Just my experience, YMMV.

Yellow sucks when trying to sleep and the moon is bright.

I too am deliberating on what colour my shelter should be. However I am tossing up white, blue and olive drab for a Hexamid. If anyone has any insight on the strengths and weaknesses of each I would appreciate it. Currently I am thinking white would be favourable as it lets in the most light… but maybe it would be too much light?

I have the olive drab and I wouldn't want it to let in more light. It may depend on where you hike, though.

+1 for olive brown

If the OP is still deliberating two months on, he's going to have to wait an additional 1-3 months beyond standard order times for olive brown. Clearly a very popular colour.

very nice on dreary days, and equally nice on not so dreary days- if you’re looking fro stealth then yellow wouldn’t be the best choice :)

Do you want something dark for sleeping and stealth camping? or do you want something light that the moonlight will shine through and/or will double as an emergency signal?
