Hi,
I'd like some recommendations on a durable, year round tent for 2 people. I'm not big 5'11 and neither is my GF. It doesn't have to be ultra light, but it should be rain proof, durable and not too heavy.

I wont use it in the snow or extreme cold.

Thanks

Some people here want to know where you plan on using said tent. You could start by reading the reader reviews to your right.

I second the Six Moon Designs suggestion. I have a 2011 Lunar Duo and think it's an amazing piece of gear.

There are plenty of solid choices that meet your criteria, but I will also jump on the Lunar Duo bandwagon. It has proven to be extremely versatile, and has a cavernous interior. It's our go-to for everything but mountaineering.

Do you have any features you're wanting? Two vestibules? Free standing? Double wall? Maximum weight?

Any specifics you could provide will help with suggestions.

Thanks for the replies. The choices seem overwhelming.

I tend to not carry a lot of gear, just a backpack, and i travel with 1 other person. Usually on flat ground. nothing too fancy. Id like ot buy something that will last a lifetime. Prefer something that isn't too small, and easy to setup.

Thanks pointing me in the right direction.

If you do find a tent that will last a lifetime, let us know.

(hint: it doesn't exist)

Your focus seems heavily on durability. Take a look at Alps Mountaineering tents. They are inexpensive and use heavier gauge material in their tents so tend to be heavier than what anyone on this would be looking at but would seem to fit what you want, simple, waterproof and durable.

If you want durability, you can't beat an REI/MEC warranty. My buddy and I picked up an REI Halfdome T2 HC (old mouthful of a name) and at around 5 lbs it's not super ultralight. However it fits both of us and our gear (we're both 5'11" range) without us having to make our friendship any more intimate. Best $20 we ever spent (REI Garage sales are awesome), however even at the $190 MSRP that a new halfdome 2 runs, it would still be a worthwhile tent.

We use it in desert scrub and as long as you pick a decent camp site and clear the floor of anything spiny we have no reason to worry about durability. Also, if it fails on you in a disappointingly fast time (say under 5 years of casual use) you can always return it for a full refund.

It's incredibly simple to set up, not too bad weight wise at 2.5 lbs per each person, reasonable price backed with superb customer service.

If you want something considerably lighter then you usually end up sacrificing durability (UL fabrics), increasing price (SUL tents, hitech fabrics), increasing fiddle factor (tarps or non-free standing poles), decreasing perceived comfort (floorless shelters bring out bug/critter fears), or any combination there of.
