I changed my avatar from my little red newt to a beautiful sunrise photo from my last hike and now my little red newt is back. ;-?

What gives with the revolving avatars?

But I do miss the little orange guy!

Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, the aliens must be inside of my computer!

I saw your response to my post and my little red newt. I refreshed my screen and my sunrise popped back up.

Curiouser and curiouser! When I checked my profile earlier I saw the little red newt there also. I'm pretty sure my sunrise will be on my profile now too. ;-?

It happened again last night and this morning!?!?!?!?

I saw my sunrise avatar next to a post of mine and then I logged in to my profile and there was my little orange guy shown as my current avatar. ;-?

Also noticed that Travis's avatar is changing back and forth from his sitting down with a snack on the trail to his snug as bug in a rug in his sleeping bag pic. ;-?

This will not make my pack lighter or get me in better shape for hiking but I am a curious sort. I am also not the most computer savvy guy on the planet.

Lately I have noticed that BPL's server response time has been slower. Sometimes I even get a message telling me that the website is currently unavailable.

Is it possible that when we refresh our screens that we are actually sending a request to see the webpage on a different BPL server "unit" that has older information stored on it? Could it be that one of the servers had a problem and was reset back to an "earlier time" to rid itself of some "issues"?

I'm just glad that I was not the only one who could see this happening.;-)

Hey Ken,

Thank you very much for the insight. I had to laugh at how long it took for the cache to be emptied. It is not something I do or look at very often.

Wait till you access the site on multiple computers. Avatars are changing all the time that way. So hard to keep track of everyone.

I can't seem to delete mine OR change it. Not cool because when someone googles me this is what they get – my avatar and my posts.

Stephen,

Go to Change My Profile and right click on the "browse" button next to where it says Upload A New Avatar. It should then give you a menu with a listed option to delete.

Warning!!! I am not sure that this will delete only your avatar image. Proceed carefully. ;-?

Just insert a picture of Obama, Reagan, Ayn Rand, Karl Marx or Ghandi.

Stephen,

You're welcome but I still see the flies. ;-?

Sometimes it takes a little while.

If you want to erase your avatar couldn't you just post a pick of a white piece of paper or something? officially it would be a pic there, but it you'd be blank to the eye.

You could say it is a pic of you in a crazy blizzard

Stating the obvious, you are posting to the public, so if you don't post anything you don't want the public (us) to know — then there should be no problem with anyone googling your posts, right?

Seems like you have successfully changed your avatar. To delete, just do quick PM to the moderator! Painless, plus they will appreciate having something to do. :)

It's also good practice for deleting threads. ;=)
