Now with useless load lifters and more weight. Excellent.

Load lifters would help make up for the under-sized torso length on the 2011.
Here:

I shall refrain from repeating myself on the weight debate.
I'd like to see Golite push the envelope in the fabric department. Dyneema X is well on its way towards antiquation.
I would like to see Golite add a 2oz hoop like the ULA Circuit. Then I could get my head around a 2 lb, 47L frameless pack.
David,
I don't keep up on the fabric department too much. Besides cuben, what is replacing Dyneema X?
I know I am the wrong David, but possibly X-pac (although it has been around for a long time used mostly on lightweight climbing packs).
Yep, dimension polyant fabrics would be a great addition to the Jam/Pinnacle line. Golite could presumably get something with the face weight and waterproof laminate of VX-21 but with a bit of the dynemma content of DX40. They'd have a truly waterproof fabric that would be as light or lighter than the current stuff, and further clarify them from MLD and ULA.
I'm still skeptical that the Ohm and Exodus hold a candle to the Jams carry comfort.
Cool. Thanks Davids.
Davids, how would you compare the Jam's comfort compared to the Osprey Talon 44 and its U-frame and rigid back panel?
I've had friends on trips with a 44, but never used it myself.
What's the new weight?
According to Golite's FB page: "The weight of the pack will be about the same, but the hip belts and shoulder straps have been reshaped and resized for significantly better fit/carry experience and load lifter straps were added to better distribute the weight. It should be leaps and bounds better than it was the past few seasons. we were able to keep the weight the same but make a superior performing pack."
I don't know exactly what "about the same" means for them!
Travis, My two cents worth on the comparison between the Osprey Talon 44 and the GoLite Jam, is the Osprey is significantly more comfortable. After doing some strap removals and some small tweaks with my Talon, there isn't much of a weight difference anymore either. Osprey gets carried away with their buckles and straps sometimes, but the suspension is worth it for me in taking the weight penalty.
I like that they use "The weight of the pack will be about the same" and "we were able to keep the weight the same." Which is it?
47L and 2lbs is still too much….
It's a shame really to see it go up so much in weight. It used to be so minimalist.
My wife still uses my old Golite Breeze.
I used a Jam from 2007 on my '08 AT thru-hike. After removing the ineffective foam back-panel insert, useless bladder sleeve, axe loops, and maybe a foot worth of various widths of webbing, it was a decent and quite inexpensive ~ 1 lb pack. Wouldn't want to use any of the more recent versions. I wouldn't want to use an old one anymore either, for that matter.
The GoLite Website has the new Jam at 1 lbs 12 ounces (vs 1 lbs 14 ounces listed for last years).
They also have the Odyssey listed at 3 lbs 2 ounces, as opposed to the 3 lbs 8 ounces for the previous model. I noticed that the Odyssey is listed as 78L now as well, instead of 90L. The BPL review of the 2011 Odyssey noted that it held closer to 72L than 90L. So I'm not sure if they changed their measurements, or the actual size of the pack.
Or perhaps I just found some older models that were lighter. Here's the links:

That was not the one they listed on the website. The one that is listed was for the Jam–P79.aspx, not the Jam–P46683.aspx. Not sure, like you. But at 3/4 pound difference between GG's DX and the Jam… I don't think there is much choice, a full pound or more weight difference.
However, the sizes ~2200ci(DX) vs ~2900(Jam), I am not sure this is a fair comparison. To the uninitiated, that would appear to be a LOT.
The pad pocket adds a bit of space inside by using external space as a stiffener/pad holder, freeing up internal volume for something, else. This has the effect of adding ~150-300ci of space or roughly a couple days of food…maybe more. Overall, I think the DX seems to be more efficient with space use than the Jam. With the additon of a couple hip pouches-matching featers with the Jam-on the DX (for lunches, camera, other day gear,~5oz,) this will easily add about 300-400ci. So, just looking at pack size may be misleading. The hip pouches and sleeve add about 500-600ci total space to the DX so they are very similar in overall space with the Jam being 26oz and the DX slated at ~20oz.
The Jam appears to be a bit more rugged, though. I have an old Trek for winter use that is TOUGH. 35-40lb weights did NOT break anything, even though I had to roll a pad inside to carry the d@mn thing. GoLite makes good packs.
I will not discus the Odyssey, anything over 2#8 is way too heavy.
I wonder what the price point will be, now that they are cutting out the middle man?
Does anyone know when this pack will be available? I had some issues with my last Jam and I received an email today from Golite saying that they just shipped me the 2012 Jam as a replacement. I don't know how I feel about that, ha, but I am excited to see it!
Waltzing through the golite store in Fort Collins, it looks like they have multiple sizes of Jam now: I saw a 35L Jam as well as the 50L Jam.
So does that mean no more Peak? Did you happen to notice if they went to Unisex Sizing instead of the mens and women's?
I read somewhere they retired the Peak's name and centralized on the Jam name in different sizes, but the features of the Peak is there called the Jam 35?
So far, I'm glad with my 2011 purchases, the Peak as larger daysack / travelling and the Jam for camping backpacking, whilst 40L was do-able had little headroom which the Jam added, I read the 2012 Jam changes and bought the 2011. There's a small concern I have that at my 5"9' the Peak without hipbelt is just being lifted by my bum as I walk and I should have got a medium instead of large. With the hipbelt it raises the pack.
where are you guys finding this stuff online? I've seen a few of the new items at the fort collins store, including their new wool shirts and hoodies, which are VERY nice. i always get sucked into buying something off the clearance rack every time i go there.
