I thought I would share this with all of you BPL folks, because you appreciate lightweight, durable gear. A good friend from undergrad and his wife are making these handmade survival bracelets in Honolulu, Hawaii while he is going to graduate school.

They are made out of paracord, and can support up to 550 lbs when unwound! Plus, if you use it, send a photo of how you used the paracord and they will send you a new one! Awesome!

Once I saw the concept, I was blown away and had to share it.

Check it out. I think some of you might find this pretty useful. I myself will be buying one today, as I have been looking for a way to downsize my survival kit. Plus, it looks cool and is made in the U.S.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Oh, and SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES!

FYI: I do not work for Paracordbracelet.com, nor am I affiliated with them in anyway.

Some of us think paracord is too big and heavy to be worth carrying. There are much lighter cordage options that are just as strong. Take Lawson’s Ironwire cord. It’s much thinner and lighter, yet is nearly twice as strong. Okay, spectra cord is slippery stuff, so maybe consider his Glowire that has two reflective tracers and a jacket that makes this very useful for guy lines and the extra visibility might help with survival situations as well…you can actually find your tent in the dark and so might your rescuers. Has your buddy considered making his bracelets out of these type of cords?
