Has anybody been to Jackson State Forest near fort bragg? Looks like an interesting place. 50k acres is pretty big.
Are there many good backpacking trails? Is dispersed camping allowed? If not, are there trail camps? Permit required? How crowded is it? I might do some hunting, but I don't want to scare off or offend others.
There is hardly any info off a google search.Oct 9, 2011 at 7:22 am #1788347Oct 9, 2011 at 1:35 pm #1788471I saw that site, but it seemed lacking on info. Doesn't say where you can overnight camp. Maybe I will try and call in.

Oct 9, 2011 at 3:36 pm #1788521Justin I have not. But I will be going now! Thanks for bringing it up. I might have not given it a second thought.

Dec 19, 2011 at 3:05 pm #1813964Have you been by there yet Justin?
Dec 19, 2011 at 3:57 pm #1813981Not yet. I have been on a lot of trips lately, but not to Jackson. It's on my list of places to check out, between boggs mountain and cache creek. All 3 of those places are 1-2 hours away.

Jun 30, 2012 at 6:58 pm #1891267I grew up near there. I haven't heard anything specific in the past few years, but it's the one piece of land I know on the Mendocino coast where some (many?) locals are actually afraid to hike because of the perceived risk of running in to marijuana grow patches and possibly armed/violent attendants.
Jun 30, 2012 at 7:10 pm #1891270So just like home then.
Aug 28, 2013 at 7:08 pm #2019669So…..has anyone actually backpacked here?
We are looking for something close to the Bay Area, with no advance reservation needed (like Point Reyes).
Aug 28, 2013 at 7:28 pm #2019678I have not heard of anyone yet. Very little online about it.
Aug 28, 2013 at 8:07 pm #2019690I completely forgot about this place. I might head up there and check it out some time in the future.
Aug 10, 2014 at 3:44 pm #2126489So did anyone explore this area? I'd be interested in a long weekend. Sounds like it may be better to be in a group rather than solo if the growers are nearby. The trail map is pretty squiggly!
Aug 19, 2014 at 11:05 am #2128636I have not Lisa. Would be interested in checking it out some time.
Apr 13, 2015 at 6:39 am #2191496Anyone been yet?
