I recently bought a 2011 version and really like it so far. You can drop 4-5oz's from the weight right off the bat by using lighter stakes and losing a lot of the fluff BA packs in there. Very roomy even for my 6'4" frame. Decided to use this on winter & rainy trips, the 10oz tarp/bivy combo for the spring/summer dry trips.

The BA site says the 2012 version is going to be lighter and probably why all the 2011s were discounted. I don't own one but it looks like an excellent design to me. It isn't UL but 2.5lbs looks to me to be achievable and you don't need tha many stakes. I see only two that are necessary and I'd probably carry four.

I own a TT that is lighter but I would be happy with the CS too. Just tradeoffs of space/pole support for weight. At 2.5lbs it is a pretty attractive choice in my mind.

Anyone know what's new about the 2012s, in details? I.E How did they make it lighter – is there any change or just lighter materials?

@Diego: I purchased it from CCOutdoorStore.com. The discount code comes from signing up for their email newsletter. So far, everything seems good. I ordered over the weekend and received an email with Fedex tracking number that it was shipped Monday evening.

@Ryan
: Good to know that it's not difficult to remove some of the fluff weight, and that you consider it roomy at 6'4"!

@Ed
: Good question. I know they removed the extra pet/boot/pee door on the back vestibule. They may have included lighter stakes, or just less of them. I'll likely not carry any stakes and just sharpen some sticks anyway. I have to pay for this luxury weight somehow. :)

Quick update:

Received it yesterday. I didn't have time to pitch it, but the claimed weights seem close enough. Right out of the box, with tags and all, the tent was 2 lbs, 12.3 oz. Removing the tags, eight 6" stakes (3 oz), and stake bag brought that down to 2 lbs, 9 oz. I'll probably continue to use the stock guylines and stuff sack.

I'll mostly use sturdy, sharpened sticks as stakes anyway. If I want to bring stakes sometime, I'll bring stouter 8" Eastons or MSR Groundhogs instead of the BA stakes because of the loose soils I usually encounter.
