Douglas-

This is just AWESOME. Man, that is so cool. Thanks for the great idea!

Sarah- thanks for sharing about Ford too! I'm so excited to make this a part of Henry's life.

As a side note, Jay Ham, one of our editors, has a backpacking with children article coming out in 2007. After watching his child's Ray-Way pack on eBay last week, I can't wait to learn more.

Merry Christmas!

I have only one thing on my christmas wish-list. That Santa'll bring me my girlfriend who lives ~650 miles from me. And know what? He'll bring her next monday.

For the baby-hijack-thread.

I hope you're not taking UL too seriously and are thiking of ways to save weight on your young ones. :+

i want to learn more about THIS. tell me about this ray-way pack. i have two kids, ages 4.5 and 1.5; my oldest went on his first overnight trip at age 5 months (btw, that was the trip that got me investigating UL). i run a backpacking with kids list with over 900 subscribers and i love new info to pass on to them.

Douglas, the harness is a slick setup. Sarah, you did something similar, didn't you?

Sure did, Tar! I had Ford on a harness setup, then went to a tether system. Worked great, it kept him going at a steady pace, and kept him from going over cliffs, rivers, etc. It stopped him once in a free fall tumble when snowshoeing. My son is an Auesperger child, and I have to often drill things in, he is very free spirited and listening is not his best thing.
I think we need to start a kid packing thread ;-)

Kind of late to chime in on this one, but I just bought a few things off of Campmor as gifts so I could order a Smartwool beanie for myself. I figured that if I was going to pay for shipping I may as well get some other stuff with it. Does that make me a bad/selfish person :). I don't think it does, especially for the money I saved. I got 2 scarves, a headband, and a beanie for $35.

Santa took advantage of the Holiday Sale at Tarptent and made an early delivery of a Rainshadow 2. Santa is quite the smart shopper in my book! :-)

I'm also hoping the that Santa has some friendly connections with Brian at ULA and he can get me my Conduit to me before our trip to Death Valley in early January! :-)

Other than that our trip to Deva and Vegas area is a Christmas/New Year/15th wedding aniversary present all rolled into one.
